nick, you're on crack. if you smear enough petroleum jelly on a blade, it won't matter what it's coated with, and it'll cut just fine. I'm just used my yard hook to cut some doughnuts in half so I could fill them with cheeze whiz, no problem. Ok, I just came up with that off the top of my head-to get my point across. And who wants petroleum gelly on there food? Or Cheez Whiz in there doughnuts for that matter.

I don't think I've ever had a knife get rust on it... except on time I put my kershaw scallion through the washer... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> and that was 440c! but I don't think a dumpster muttt would end up in my washer. and if it did, rust would be the least of my problems.

Haven't you ever heard of jelly filled donuts? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Acutally, if you're going to use a knife for food use, a better rust preventative is mineral oil. It's a natural laxative, but enough to coat a blade won't hurt ya.

It gets rancid over time. Olive oil doesn't and would be a better choice.
