It may seem a silly question to the majority who buy Scrap Yard knives as "users", but I collect mine (some are even still sealed in their plastic). The "Original" DFCG was released before I discovered the Yard, but was able to score on the last Military Overrun DFCG release. I wanted to know from someone who has both, are there any markings or defining characteristics that differentiate those two releases?

but Jim, how will you know if the edge is able to hold up to some hard use if you don't work it/beat it/test it?

I plan on two for myself and one for Texas Tony. I REALLY like my DMLE, of which this is a clone. With the exception of the SS4, the DMLE is about as small as I like to go with a knife - any smaller is folding knife territory.

Reading my mind again Mr. Klink.

Now, hang on, this might make some of you reach for your flamethrowers, but here goes.

I reckon I'll try for a couple. One will be left in the plastic for later re-sale, the other, who knows? This release isn't shivering me timbers like the Mil overrun. Alas, I missed out on that one. Not having ever had a DM before though, it's entirely possible I just don't know what I've been missing this whole time and will be thrilled to death with it.

There's another thing that's been on my noggin for some time now...
I'm just going to say it, I don't like the choil on SYKCO blades, or any other knife for that matter. Never had a use for it myself, just seems like empty space where a bit more sharp edge could live. I suppose this is a Busse kin trademark feature though, so I'll just have to deal with my hang-up on my own.

At least with the DF series there's plenty of blade to go around in the first place, so I don't mind so much. For a 4-5" blade I like the YK much better than the DM for it's lesser choil if nothing else.

Anyhow, best of luck to all the Dogs this afternoon.

I am one of those people who don't care for a choil, but I agree with Bruce that if a knife has one it should be usable. The DM assumes that role very well.

I'd buy a dozen if I could, Tom. There's nothing but upside profit potential in those blades. (With Dan raising the price $20.00 on Tuesday, an initial 25% profit potential is already built-in. ) But I can't afford to do that. So I'll happily settle for just one.

You and I both know that the best deal Dan gave us up to now was the original DM for $69.95. With a full flat grind, double-cut finish, standard Res-C handle, Scrap Yard logo and $79.95 price point, the DMDC sets a new standard for the BEST DEAL EVER!

A couple nice things about being single is that I don't have to explain my purchases and I can afford it. I've been trying to put a little aside for Knob Creek but I don't know of anything in the works that's a better deal than this, so I believe I'll go for 9 -- I might go as high as 13 on impulse, but I don't plan to.
