It may seem a silly question to the majority who buy Scrap Yard knives as "users", but I collect mine (some are even still sealed in their plastic). The "Original" DFCG was released before I discovered the Yard, but was able to score on the last Military Overrun DFCG release. I wanted to know from someone who has both, are there any markings or defining characteristics that differentiate those two releases?

but Jim, how will you know if the edge is able to hold up to some hard use if you don't work it/beat it/test it?

I plan on two for myself and one for Texas Tony. I REALLY like my DMLE, of which this is a clone. With the exception of the SS4, the DMLE is about as small as I like to go with a knife - any smaller is folding knife territory. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
