alright before I post pictures, I think I should give some backround, because I didn't really think about taking pics until the very end of the day.

so yesterday me and my little bro were choppiong, only this time when we ran out of stuff to chop we decided to go over the infamous fence! (everyone spazzes when you go over, they think your going to like die or something I swear)
*dramatic theme music*

so I would go over chop a small tree (maybe 2inches in diameter or so) down when we needed something to chop.
today we decided to get a bigger tree.
I had to go down the riverbank a little and it was kind of hard to drag the tree up and over the fence, but we did it.
the part of the tree was about 4- 4 1/2 inches in diamter and about 15 feet long.
so I quickly limbed it and my brother used the DFLE to chop it into pieces.
while he was doing that I decided to get the camera out and baton with the YKCG to see what it could really do.

so here are some pics.

so my little brother went to work on the rest of the log...
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

meanwhile I started batoning the logs that were nearly as thick as the yardkeeper was long... pretty impressive for a small knife.

diceman is my hero... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

so my brother kept chopping to give me more stuff to baton... and being very independent, he didn't want to rely on the DFLE to cut the log in half...
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com] but later he gave up and wnet to the DFLE.

so I batoned the log into 8 pieces and batoned some other small sticks and logs and stuff....
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

then I tried to baton this massive (well, for the yardkeeper at least) log... it's nothing compared to dicemans personnal best, but still good for a small knife.

it's hard to baton through it because I only have the tip of the knife... but I got a good technique down and did alot better and got through it way faster...

the sumac tree seemed soft, but was actually VERY knotty inside.

finally I got through it!

it has a foam like material inside... its almost like cork.

so I split that log into pieces and had a nice pile.

that combined with everything I batoned with the YKCG yesterday made quite a nice pile.

alot of nice finish wear too!

so my yard had alot of piles of wood now and I hope to add more later.

oh, and this is where we got the tree from, it's a kind of dangerous sittuation, but you can't tell from the pics.
its a 50 foot drop too the river and its pretty steep, luckly I could grab some vines for support and lean on the tree.

well just thought I'd show what a little knife can do.
well, I'm sure most of you already knew, but I was pretty impressed and thought I'd share.

but when I was done, I noticed my yardkeeper was used alot and so was my DFLE, well what about my rd9?!
I can't leave it out, so I batoned some logs and it did great.

it easily tore through the thick knotts in this tree.

so I had a nice pile and all my knives were well loved for the day!

Sweet stuff there EMF, you are sure using a big baton it seames. It is funny your baton shure gets shreaded up hitting the tip of the knife every time from the top, my (2nd Gen) Howling Rat doses the same thing to the baton and I guess any knife dose when your splitting log is just a little bit less in width than the lenght of your knife.

yeah, sometimes it gets like stuck on the tip of the knife.
I liked the baton, it was like a freaking club.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

and I forgot to mention there wa not a single ding or dent in the knife at all and that the edge is still the same.

Great pics - thanks. Looks like the YK didn't skip a beat.

When the knife starts getting jammed during batoning it's sometimes helpful to drive a wider wedge into the gap to hold the log sides apart and take the pressure off the blade.

Nice work EMF...

You should start using a Fat FBM for the chopping and batoning. You'll be amazed. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Hope you can do some more testing with your other knives, especially the DF. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

give me an fbm and I will go to town!
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I'd love to have one.
but I liked the challenge of using a little knife.
I wanted to see what I could do with it.
I really want a dfcg too...
even more than an fbm.

Maybe when I get a few more FBMs I'll do a teen pass around. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

From what HD did with the DFLE and DFCG, they both chop about the same, but the DFLE feels better in the hands. I want to get both, but seeing that I have an FBM, there really is not point...then again... what's the point of me having a lot of knives. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> So, yea, I want both. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Nice work, and great pix! I'm pretty impressed with that little bugger's perfomance - I wouldn't have even thought to take mine out batoning!
