I deicided to do some batoning with my kershaw blur, just to see if it could hold up.
....
as usual, I (well, my little brother took some of the pics, and he takes too many sometimes) toke wayyy to many boring pics. but...
soory.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I took advantage of the good lighting for some nice (for me at least) indoor pics.

idk if you can tell, but this thing has a very acute, thin, hollow ground edge.
(yes thinner than a grip.) def. a slicer.
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

a pretty thin liner lock.

and a 3 3/8" long blade.

the view from my backyard...
(the dump in PA <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />)
[Linked Image from i214.photobucket.com]

it was pretty windy out and the water was kind of rough.

anyways... I picked up a small remainder of a log (split by the YKCG) about 2" in diameter and went to work...

it was pretty tall... about 2-3 feet.

the lock failed a few times...
but it did really good even though I hit a small knot.

so I got trough it!
it took like.. 2 minutes, but I got throught it.
if I had to I know I could baton with my folder... you just have to try to keep the tip down.

I was suprised the edge didn't roll because it was so thin and charp.
but it held up fine.
it did lose its shaving sharp edge though, but it's still very sharp.

I did a little rip off chop off on this old chair of mine and destroyed it (I have some pics) and i decided to take one of the legs and try batoning through that, because its VERY hard wood.
...first I asplit the piece with the yardkeeper...

then on the smaller piece (probably 1" in diameter) I went to work on with the blur.

once again... it did fine.
then I took another previously split piece and chopped off some of it with the yardkeeper (it really does great at chopping small pieces) so it won't be so long this time.

I went to work with the blur...

again it did fine!

and it's still sharp enough to make some fizz sticks...
(sorry some of the pics are soo blurry, ididn't know how to opereate macro right at first)

so you most def. baton with a thin hollow ground folder!
amazing... I know.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
you've batoned with some folders.
I just never really considered this one a hard use folder AT ALL, and I wanted to see what it could do.

lol... I wish I could take pics like you vic, I either take wayyyyyyy too many, or I take too little.
oh well!
hopefully I'll get the hang of it.

but the grip is still a great folder

I will baton my grip tomorrow and see how it holds up

true!
I never really thought that that one could've been faulty.
duh!

this happened to sharp too thogh!
hmmm... *abusers!*

62 rc is really hard though, in the grips defense I don't think this one is as hard.
if it does chip, I say return it (if you can) and get a different model of benchmade... with maybe a diff. steel.

Hahahahahahahaha SWEET emf <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I've had the pleasure of using a friend's drop-point blur on a number of occasions, I really like it. As for the lock failing... well, liner locks are the best in the business, but they're still good for all normal use.

Great demo and pics!

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

The only folder I ever batoned with is my Dejavoo. And that was only once. In fact, the first time I ever saw it done with any knife was on Man vs Wild. I always used an axe or maul to split wood. Then when I started visiting the various knife forums, seems like everybody was doing it. First knife I remember batoning with was the Dog Father! I've been using knives, machetes, and axes for 50 years, but if the technique wasn't in the Boy Scout handbook I didn't know about it. Just shows that we are never too old to learn new stuff.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Very cool EMF. The only folder I ever batoned with is my RAO. The next time a thread pops up in the forums about Is it wrong to baton with a folder ? Make sure you post this as an example. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Nice looking folder by the way. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
