by the way, we're knife collectors. the knife on my multitool is a blessing, not a necessity.

try soaking them in salt water for 24 hours, and see what happens! (not responsible for what happens! )
I've heard/read many stories with Leatherman, even for less time, asking us how to remove the rust, and the swisstool never gets a spot.

I would much rather have the Byrdtool or the Spyderwrench. They have a much better knife and a very innovative design.

by the way, we're knife collectors. the knife on my multitool is a blessing, not a necessity. Agreed. "Two is one and one is none." My EDC is a plain-edged Delica '4' and there is always a Vic SAK and fixed blade in my vehicle kit (Ontario TAK-1). My primary outdoor fixed blade is a recently acquired Dumpster Mutt so I feel I am covered but I also want to keep a quality multitool in a seprate PSK, "just in case."

Appreciate the link, WD.
I didn't realize how large the Swisstool was in comparison.
As my PSK is an already "full" Blackhawk E&E bag, I may look at Vic's smaller offering.
Thank you all again for shining some light on my questions!

It's just too hard for me to choose between Victorinox and Leatherman.
That's why I carry a Leatherman Surge and also some form of Victorinox SAK everywhere. I just can't live without either one.

I know what you mean, rainwalker.
I recieved my first SAK when I was about 8-9 years old from an uncle who lived in the UK. Up until then, none of my local "kid haunts" offered much more than Buck & Case (both brands way out of a 8-year old's price range) but plenty of the $3.99 Imperial folders. I think I had every model of those cheesy things!
I have long since lost that 1st SAK (a "Spartan") but 35 years later I still have one or more of them within reach.
If not for the bending/cutting of 18/20 gauge snare wire, I would happily stick to a non-pliered SAK red/black handled folder!

That all sounds real familiar.
I remember my dad always tried to talk me out of buying the cheap stuff, but there just wasn't very many alternatives...
I carried a cheapie SAK copy that I got mail order for years, I've still got it as a matter of fact (somewhere). I'm really kind of surprised it survived. It got replaced with a real SAK for EDC as soon as I was old enough to make a little money to find and buy the real thing though. There's very rarely been a day since that I haven't had at least one SAK close at hand.
I still gotta get a Victorinox Spirit though, I keep saying I gunna get one and then something always comes up.

Which multitools can you open bali style? I sit just the SOG? I like their power assist, but I'm not fond of pretty much anything else about them.

SOG is also made to switch out their tools easy, to customize them yourself, that is sweet!
Some Leatherman models can one hand open and the Swisstool.
