Hi everyone. New to the pound and this is my first post. I'm also waiting to get my dmdc. Sounds like it is worth the wait. Can anyone advise me as to what angle I should sharpen my scrap yard knife. Thanks for the help.

some of the edges are convexed, I'm not sure about the d mutt, but I think my yardkeeper and DFLE are. you can sharpen just whatever agle it's at, (by hand with a stone) at the very end of the edge, hold the stone at a sharp angle to the edge. if you're sharpening like a regular flat ground edge, whatever angle you prefer. but you're going to change the edge entirley.
and if you want to keep the convex edge, you can use the sandpaper and mousepad techniqe.
and welcome to the scrapyard forum!!!

Welcome Kansas. One some of my blades I use a Sharpmaker with the 20 degree seting, one some blades I use my ghetto belt sander for a convex edge. It's kind of a personal thing, but in general, I like to thin out my edges from factory Bussekin specs.

I think the S6LE was the only blade to come with a convex edge. I would agree you will need to sharpen the blade.

I think most scrapyard have convex edges, but they're hard to see. you can see the flat spots if you sharpen it with a stone with a shallow angle.

Pretty much all Busse knives come with a Convex edge. Use sandpaper and a mousepad. A search should bring up info on how to do that.

Welcome to the Yard, KJ1.
Yea, what they said. I rarely try to actually gauge my edge, I just thin it out some if it's going to be a user.

I wouldnt bring it down too far. I reprofiled my Yard Keeper to a pretty low angle and it's really affected the edge stability, I'm constantly having to strop off rolled areas after using the knife on hardwood.

I havn't touched the edge on the DFLE or yardkeeper. other than some strops with a fine arkansas stone. they came pretty good and sharp from the factory, and at the angle I like it.

Welcome KJ1! I'm a FNG here myself and can't give advise yet but I can say that the Dumpster Mutt in any configuration is an excellent choice. As for sharpening, I'm having my own problems with it right now. (See Post "OK What did I do wrong?"
Again, Welcome - it's a great place to hang!
