Since SR101 wants to rust, why not help it out some? I stripped the coating and buffed it a bit. I kept it shiny with Tuf Cloth. Then Satan came into my head and convinced me to try giving it a patina. I used gun bluing and 0000 steel wool, after stripping all the protection I could with alcohol. I can always buff it out if I don't like it. Reminds me of my Mom's old butcher knife, which I kept sharp for her.

That actually looks pretty good. I just got some bayonets and that looks like the patina on my 1912 Ross bayonet.

I would have gone darker, but I ran out of gun bluing. The Mandu is one of my favorite knives.

I really, really like it Vic. The knife has character. As the patina becomes richer and deeper, it becomes...filled with it's own karma. I know it sounds corny. But now it's unique.

Awesome work HD.

The shiny edge is a great contrast to that oxide finish.

PS Got intructions to recreate???

1. Clean stripped and buffed blade with alcohol, incuding tang and ricasso.
2. Apply Birchwood-Casey Perma-Blue with 0000 steel wool.
3. Allow to darken to desired color.
4. Wash off.
5. To go from blue to gray, apply WD-40 with another piece of steel wool.
6. Wipe clean, touch up edge, if desired.
