I'm glad this thread was started, because I was just about to start one.
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS... Since my initial attempt at the DF failed, this is my first SY knife and came in the mail yesterday. Sheath was ordered, but not in the box as many of you have stated as well. This isn't a huge deal for me as I've read that Patti and Dan will make it right.
Knife was quite dull, as many of you have also stated. To me this isn't a big deal because I have a good set of Arkansas stones.
My first impression of the knife was the small handle. Like I said, this is my first SY knife and my first experience with Res-C. The handle is long enough, just thinner than I thought it would be.
The finish wasn't perfect, kinda blotchy, but I can't complain knowing SY's motto - if it doesn't make the knife function better, why bother. I know that if I wanted a safe queen, I could buy from Jerry Busse for 5 times the price.
Overall, I am pleased with the knife so far. Just can't wait to get the sheath, sharpen it, and take it to the woods.

Jason, The Scrap Yard small kydex sheath also ran out when the YKCG was released. It took two-three weeks for my sheath to come in after the knife.
I finally had a chance to sharpen my DMDC last night. I'm not real good at sharpening knives. 10 minutes on a spyderco sharpmaker and a few strokes on a leather strop and the knife is just short of shaving sharp. Which is about as sharp as I'm ever able to get a knife.
If you any skill with those Arkansas stones I'm sure you'll be able to get it shaving sharp.
If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer.

My second impression is how much more comfortable the handle is on my DMDC than it was on my DMCG. (I sold my DMCG because the handle didn't fit me well.) The DMDC handle fits my hand perfectly. That is the ONLY thing that has bugged me about my Mutt! That Busse basic handle. I always wished Dan had left those where they were in the bottom of the dumpster and gone with his OWN Res-C stubs on The Dog Mutt Combat Grade. The Basic are just a bit short, and thin,my hand falls off the back. What about a huge mudder style? My only beef ever with The Yard. The knife as it is is a BEAST! But that Basic handle...bye bye! Glad you like yours Bruce! Peace.
Some people just never learn.

HD, that is a beautiful edge on that knife. I thought I got mine sharp last night until I saw that. The edge on mine looks blunt compared to that.

Glad to hear you like it bruce. I almost think it would kind of look cool with a really blotchy finish... with all dark spots it would almost look kind of like urban camo or... something.
glad to hear you like it too jackell and JAWilder, and that it will get some good use.
I personally find my scrapyards the easiest knives to sharpen and I'm not even good at sharpening (I only have half of a fine arkansas stone, some 120 grit emery paper, and a kabar sheath that I sanded a portion of paint off of to make a ghetto leather strop) and I can gt them to shave with just an arkansas stone... sometimes it take a little leather strop though.

It's hard to tell by looking at the pic, but the finish on your DMDC seems much more even than the finish on mine. Luck of the draw, I suppose. And, of course, some of us are better with Scotchbrite wheels than others. That is because I buffed it with Scotchbrite wheels.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I had no problem with the matte finish either. Mine looked fine to me.
