Anybody have any experience with razor wire? One of my employees is deploying in a few months and he's looking for a better combat knife.
He said one of the things he wants to be able to do with it is chop/break razor wire. He said he breaks it in a notch in his current knife. I assume the metal won't tolerate acute deformation and it breaks that way. Anybody know if a mojo/hook will do this or how the different Busse steels would perform against razor wire?
His other criteria are that he wants a fighter with a tip designed for thrusting with a blade of at least 6".
Thoughts?

Sounds like he wants a clip point fighter with a wire cutter/breaker? I don't know of any in that configuration other than the M9/M10 bayonets, and they aren't such great steel. They come up a little short as well. Whatever he gets, have him test it on some wire before he leaves.

I know most TOPS knives come with a wire breaker notch, I think I would just get a Scrapper 6 etc and team it up with a good mult-tool for cutting the wire !!!!
I thought it was only Rambo who used a big knife for doing that ?

this guy would kill rambo lol seriously though, I don't know what he does with the wire, where, when, or how, but this is going to be his 3rd or 4th time over there so I figure he's got it pretty well figured out. He just wants a better blade.
I told him to check out bussecollector and badmojo and bladeforums and check out Busse Combat/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard and read about INFI/SR-101/SR-77 with a list of blades in the 6"-7.5" range. He was particularly interested in the destruction tests. Who wouldn't find that entertaining?

is the wire soft enough to chop? It's probably soft enough for some higher end steels to chop, but you have to have something to back it when you're chopping it.

I hear that Tops sometimes chip when used on wire.
a scrapyard would not chip thats for sure! It MIGHT get dented more than a rat or hog though. although I think it would handle it just fine, how many nails has chris or and vance cut through???

Have your employee check this forum: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=70He will have to register to do a search, and if he chooses to ask a question I would suggest he ask it only after doing extensive reading and with humility. Extema Ratio wire cutter bayonet.. As used by Italian spooks and SAS types, not INFI or even close (sort of 440C by the looks of it) but I seem to have heard they have a good rep'..
