I'm doing a 12 hour water test of a couple of my MTs.
I've got them outside, on glass plates, their is a 100% chance of rain,
40s(F)now, the temperature is going to drop to the 30s later with rain all night...

the Players;
Leatherman Blast
Victorinox Swisstool RS

who will stay clean!
the first hour;

wow you are a brave man, I don't think I could even try that, if the swiss tool is made og the same steel their other pocket knives are it will be more than fine.

The temperature will help reduce the corrosion some. Oxidation is a first order reaction with respect to temperature.

I think you'll get bored waiting for them to rust.

Throw some blood on them and see what happens in 12 hours.

I'd remove that Leatherman now as they don't do too well when it comes to rust resistance !!!

I had them out for 26 hours, nothing, no rust, no spotting, nada! and it rained pretty good here, off and on.

When I get a new tool, I do wipe them down with Break Free CLP, maybe that
helps. and it was chilly out, could have slowed things down.

I'm glad I did it, I feel safer, more confident I can forget, drop a tool for a day or so and not have to worry much.

Now on to the next test!!

If you want disappointment, I have a Gerber multitool I could send you!

While it has served me adequately (I recently replaced it with a Vic Spirit), the dull satin finish would rust if I stared at it too long.

I heard that leathermans were not so great when it came to shock resistance, so you can imagine the horror I felt when I realized that I had failed to clean or dry my leatherman surge after my last trip into the woods... about a week ago! While in the woods, it got caked in mud and totally soaked. However, to my great surprise, there was absolutely no rusting on the handles or on the blades after I'd washed it up. And considering that my leatherman's 420 performs as well or better than the 154CM on my griptilian, and sharpens more easily... i think I'm in love

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

I've not had rusting problems with my leatherman "base" products. I left a leatherman charge on a boat for a while. The charge didn't rust but the replaceable bits did.
