willieboy, nice setup! how you like the 9x18mm??? im looking at getting a sig sauer p232. pretty close.
Hello Reconseed.
I like the 9x18 round. I've always found the recoil of the .380 to be kind of snappy in the couple of PPKs I've owned over the years, but the 9x18 is different. Kind of hard to explain but instead of the pistol rising on impact, it moves rearward in the hand, making for fast follow up shots.
This is the only 9x18 I've had so maybe the characteristics of the recoil have more to do with the pistol than the round. I've read the 9x18 falls between the .380 and the 9x19 in power. It is also the largest round that can be chambered in fixed barrel pistols like the Mak or PPK. I really like the Makarov too. Great little gun. Due to its longer barrel length, versus the PPK, it is easy to carry Mex style...just stuffed in the pants behind the hip for a quick trip to the store. The longer barrel helps stabilize the weapon.
I think mine was manufactured in 1984. It's a Bugarian Mak. It was new when I bought it though finish was hardly what we woult get in a new S&W for example. Some scratches and just kind of rough overall. I guess becasue it's a military pistol. The trigger was brutal too, hence my trip to Teddy Jacobson's shop.
The ammo is cheap. I shoot the Barnul brand. They're hollow points. They stink like rotten eggs when fired. Gives the shooter plenty of elbow room at the range as other shooters leave thinking I suffer from flatulence.
