Here is a picture or two of my newish Ruger P40. It has really grown on me. I think it makes a nice alternative to a shotgun. Can't be throwing pellets around with a couple of Shelties on the loose.



The knife in the preceeding picture is a Viper. I have wanted one of these since I was around 15 years old.

I know you all know that knife.

You got one of those cheepo knock-offs. The maker mentioned those to me. Pisses him off, which is understandable.
Mine is hand-made out of spring steel, and partially sharpened, so I can stab a bear or ostrich. The sheath is also handmade, with a clip on the back. While he designed it as a throwing knife, I use it as a roo knife.

I have a buddy that is a Columbus narc agent. They use those ruger carbines.

How old is this maker as those "knock offs" appear to be the standard throwing knife style that has been around in circuses and carnies for decades if not over 100 years

Exact style? So, his Canadian trademark and copyrights for the design are invalid?
Just expressing info as related by the maker. If you want to argue the legal ramifications of trademark violations with him, I guess you could contact him and/or his legal representative.

That's cool to hear. I think it would make a great patrol carbine. Very easy to handle; it is much lighter than it looks.
The only thing I do not love is the caliber. If it was .45ACP, I'd love it. But, since I have a bunch of .40's, it's okay for my needs.
Ruger did make 3 of them in .45 ACP, but for some foolish reason did not think they would sell commercially.

Well they use them to good effect, they just busted up a big smuggling ring.

Have you tried Cor-Bon or other hot loaded factory 155gr. ammo in it? That should be knocking on the door of .357 Mag performance.

I agree, it sounds like it would have sold VERY well even though Marlin's attempt at a pistol-caliber carbine seemed to flop somewhat in terms of popularity/sales.

A number of years back, I fired one in 9mm and was less than impressed due to the weight of the rifle vs. the caliber but I think I would like one in 40 S&W.

J&G Sales (as advertised in Shotgun News) usually offers police trade-ins (40 S&W) at decent prices.

My wife has one of those Marlin carbines, but in 9mm. She loves it. Makes sense for her, as she is a 9mm/38/357 kind of a girl.

I have read of premature part breakage, but there are many sites that offer part upgrades. Actually, I do not think it will be a problem for her, unless the zombies really do come. I also have been told that the marlin carbine must be cleaned every 200 rounds or so, to function properly. So far, so good. My guns go thru maybe 500-1000 rounds a range visit, but hers do not.

Me? I feel the manliness melting off of me when I pick up my 9mm Kahr. I prefer the big bores. If I sqint real hard, I can pretend the .40 is a big bore.
I like the rifle enough, that I have been playing with the idea of geting a Ruger pistol that uses the same mags. Right now, my house gear involves a Glock 21 and the ruger. Does not quite match up.

As far as ammo goes, I have some glasers, and the cool federal expanding full metal jacket. I eventually want to score some of that nifty plus-p corebon FMJ.

It is a nice enough gun that my best buddy also went out to buy one. His has standard sites, mie ghost rings. He is going to put a holo-site or some such on his gun. I feel that the ghost rings are good enough for my planned 15-20 foot shooting distance.
