I've gathered form the recent Dumpster Mutt poll that most people, including myself, don't care much for the DMLE handle (too small). Has anyone ever had a Res-C handle replaced and how much did it cost? Is it something that SYKCO would do if requested (for $ of course)?

I recently sold my DMLE for that very reason, I know the DMDC is going to show up with a bit fatter handles. To answer your question, when I got my DMLE I did not like the handles on it at all so I pm'd Dan and his response was "No custom work is offered at the SY shop" so your best bet would be to possibly wrap the handle like Pitman's infamous Mutt. I really like the blade design, it just felt really awkward with the smallish handles.

Actually, I've heard that quite a few like the Mutt handles, although many (including myself) prefer the S6 sized grips. However, the Mutt handles aren't terrible for me and reduce the overall length by about 1/2-inch, so I haven't looked into replacing them. I haven't cut one off, but it wouldn't surprise me if the lanyard hole goes through the tang -- if so, that 1/2-inch difference may be a fairly big issue for re-handling. If it bothers you that much, I don't think it'll hurt to ask Dan, but he may not have enough time between runs to take on custom work.

SB answered the custom work question.

If anybody cuts off their Res C handle to replace it, please contact me and send the Res C handle to me.

Thank you.

wonder if jerry has any of the mudder handles laying around that he would customize a DM with mudders. that would be an awesome knife.

I asked about this at BLADE 07, if I remember it all correctly....... The lanyard hole does go through the tang. That is what holds the handle on. The tang is pressed into the pre made handle and then lanyard hole is installed. the tang on the S6 is bigger and therefore the tang slot in the S6 handle is too. I guess I kinda invisioned they poured the handles on the blade with a mold or something so I found the process interesting.

Putting a mudder on the DM would mean the tang would have to be redsigned smaller I think.

I missed that somehow, the DMDC has thicker handles?
