To me, the HC doesn't really catch my attention. It's a smaller version of the HRLM and RMD with a rounded spine, in which case I'd rather have the HRLM and RMD. On the other hand, the MP's "coolness" factor is way up there for me; it has those sweet tan mudder res-c handles, and completely different from anything the yard has offered, except maybe the SS4. I don't know, when I saw the HC, I wasn't really impressed. The same time I was shopping in the secondary market for a SS4 or something tan, and with the MP, I get the best of both worlds. Like I said earlier, I'll probably regret not ordering HC, but it's only practical for me to choose one, and I gotta go with the MP. I can't wait for these 2 weeks to pass so I can order one already because I seriously cannot concentrate on my study!

I hope they have the HCLE at Blade too. It'd be interesting to do a side by side comparison. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I for obvious reasons ordered the HC, but I'm looking forward to the MP even more. I just love those Mudder handles! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I just can't wait to get my hands on that Puppy! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Obviously, most of us are hoping for a good price.

But, it appears (and I am confident), that with a reasonable price, these are going to be in HIGH demand.

So, I guees we should all be hoping there are a TON of these AWESOME little knives to be made - so most everybody can get one or a few! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

I missed when the original Bog Dog was released and had to pick one off the secondary market a few years ago now.

I still have and still love that knife. I wish I had a few.

IMO, these mudder handles and stainless make a good handy knife for MANY uses.

I mentioned before, but again, for the cars, Bug-out bags, around the house, etc.

If you leave non-stainless out in your car, it will rust over time.

Also, these little mudder handled knives are super light-weight for hiking, backpacking, EDC, etc.

Honestly, I am still going to carry a folder for city EDC. But, I always prefer a fixed blade in the field, trails, etc. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

This Mud Puppy should weigh in under 5.0 ounces!
Probably close to 4.5 ounces - I would guess.

For weight comparison:

SS4........................= 5.5 ounces
Bog Dog..................= 5.0 ounces;

HRLM.......................= 9.0 ounces
Yard Keeper LE..........= 7.5 ounces
Howler (Res-C)..........= 6.0 ounces

Big choppers are very cool and all, but similar to guns, the best knives are the ones you can carry the most. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

.... Well ..... like guns.... best from one perspective anyway. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I like my big .45's more than any little .380 or even my compact .40's.

Similarly, some big knives are just "Awesome". But, not always ideal for carry.

These little Mud Puppy's look to fill a nice niche in my book.

Good size full grip handle for a plenty secure and comfortable user grip and handy enough sized blade for MANY tasks. Comfortable grip and GREAT blade shape all in one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

This Mud Puppy looks Practical, handy, convenient, etc. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I didn't order the HC and I feel like I might regret it later, but I could only afford one and I'm liking the MP better.
To me, the HCLE and the MPLE are virtually interchangeable. I prefer the HCLE for purely aesthetic reasons. But which one I decide to buy (if either) will depend on how much the MPLE costs. If the difference in price between the HCLE and the MPLE is $20.00 or less, I'd take the HCLE. If the difference in price between them is greater than $20.00, however, I'd take the MPLE. Or to put it another way, I wouldn't be willing to pay more than a $20.00 markup for G-10 handles.

Problem is, unless the knife is a steal or has a maker's mark I want to acquire, I don't normally buy fixed blade knives with blade lengths less than 4". That's folder territory AFAIC. I already own a knife with a Swamp Rat logo and the HCLE at nearly $155.00 shipped doesn't qualify as a steal in my estimation. So under any circumstances, the HCLE is out for me. Whether the same is true of the MPLE depends on what Dan decides to sell it for. But just so I don't get accused of vacillating after Dan announces the price, I won't pay more for it than I would for a folder. And my folder spending limit is $100.00.

i agree with just about everything in this post. relative to the entire knife market, $100 shipped may be okay, but in my eyes this thing should be priced relative to busse clan knives which should take it well below that. considering the price of the swarden and greater knives from the swamp that cost less than the swarden, the mple shouldn't come near $100 shipped, i don't care if it is a tan LE.

I'll take #39 .... if we are getting our JYD #'s.

And if I can get some stuff sold in time, maybe and extra # something or other.
