There's a another picture with and extra long handle of RES C to balance it better.

[Linked Image from 216.69.138.190]

I've also got a design.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

The DK-47 = Dog Kensei - 47

The top three designs are just speculation on some Military appealing knives. Broad, saber ground, swedge, small cut out for rope cutting, etc.

The RS6 was just hybrid though of the Scrapper and a Guard. A Recurve Scrapper 6 if you will.

I would rather see the price around $175 to $200 tops.

I didn't buy an AK-47 for a reason - I wanted one, but WAY too expensive for me.

The Bark River Northwind out of 0170-6 with micarta handle and my Bark River Golok could be had for around $125 - $175 when first released.

I have to try to keep things in perspective. I don't really have much use for this. I just want one.

For practical purposes, this competes with $15 - $20 machetes - any way you slice it. And cheap machetes get the job done quite well.

Heck, I have a VERY nice polished Cheness - Kaze Katana - 9260 with clay hardened Hamon and Tameshigiri polish. It is tough and capable of being a very tough and functional user. I paid around $150.

I also have a Criswell Wakazashi that is pretty nice that I purchased for around $125.

So, while I would love a Scrap Yard SR-77 short sword with about a 15" - 17" blade, I can't justify $300+

$175 - $200 for me or I have to pass.

YES, I WANT A SY SWORD!!!

Well something similar to the Busse Ruck in my opinion would be nice. Here are some shots of the Ak (longer) and Ruck (shorter)

I'd like a cutlass, with full wrap around basket guard if it's a one hand sword. Otherwise, I'd need it to be a two-hand katana-style blade. I voted no, not because I'm not interested in a sword, but the design wasn't what I'd look for, and the question stated, "similar to the one pictured above". I don't know how thick that blade would be, but if it was proportional the the blade width, I would expect it to be too heavy for one-hand use, possibly even impractical with a longer two-handed grip. I'm not an expert, but I think a blade with those proportions would handle more like an ax than a sword.

I almost didn't post my comment because it's critical of the proposed design and I don't want any hard feelings. However, for a sword to have any utility as a modern weapon, it has to be fast -- speed kills.

I already have to many in that size and I think the Res-C handle would throw the balance off.

+1 my friend!

Every so often, I look at their 30-inch Nagasa online; I've been tempted, but have read some rather unflattering reviews of Cheness swords -- basically calling them poorly fitted junk. I'm glad you like yours. I don't know if they're inconsistent in their quality, or what. I don't feel technically competent to judge how "good" Japanese swords are -- sure, I can tell if one's tight or if it rattles, but I do have enough knowledge to know there's a lot more to it than that.

This is out of proportion.

FF7 anyone? hahah.

Good point though Jim. Give it a slim profile like the ak/ruck and it'd be game.

HAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness I've got tears in my eyes....

What in lords name is that?

But on the actual sword, making a Busse quick is kinda hard. I've handled the AK and it is much to heavy, or actually forward heavy, to be an effective sword. For two handed chopping it would excel.

Speed, you might be able to get a good quick swing if your trained. But I doubt that most people who have Ak-47s do Kendo or follow Bushido. Even then, they would know that a quality Samurai sword would be much better than the AK-47 for actual "combat" use.

Course, I don't think we, here at the yard, want a sword as a modern combat weapon. More of as a large machete and thin choppers, which is basically what the AK and Ruck were intended for.
