When the DMDC first came out there was a lot of threads concerning if this knife would have a rusting problem. The best way to find out is to test it. I just returned from a 4 day Trout fishing trip.
I left the knife in the live well during the day except to take it out and use it.
On the first day the DMDC was used for the normal activitites in a boat related to fishing. Was it the best tool for the job? No. The Leatherman Mirca was the best tool for the job, but the DMDC did everything ask of it.
The DMDC was used to clean the first days catch. Was it the best tool for the job? Again no. The small Rapala fillet knife was, but the DMDC handled the job amirably.
Even as slimely as your hands and knife get cleaning fish the Res-C handle was easy to hang on to.
At the end of the day the DMDC was dried and wiped down with a Tuf-Cloth. After 4 days in the water the DMDC did start to show some signs of rust.
Keep in mind these are extreme close up pictures. The rust spots are so small they look like a minor blemish to the naked eye.
This was only minor surface rust and easily came off by hand with a Scotchbrite pad.
As a retired national sports caster was fond of saying "You make the call!"
Will the DMDC rust faster than a CG or Satin blade? Looks like it. Is this a problem? I'm sure it will be for some.
I don't have a a belt sander or bench grinder so I don't consider rust a problem if I can get it off by hand. I personally believe the DMDC was a good purchase......Thanks, Dan <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
