Thanks to everyone for their input so far...

@bld522: the Ash-1 is nice, but too big for an edc for my tastes.

@reconseed: your posts are what started me looking at the SD.

@pitman and Paul the Brit: I am not offended, I asked for opinions, good or bad.

I too found neither the Scotch Dispenser nor the Sus Scrofa appealing. If the SD were closer to a classic ring knife with the ring at the rear I might have considered it.

As it is there are lots of alternative small Busse blades that I like better like the ADs (the Boney ADs especially) or the Game Wardens over either of your two choices. Skeleton knife choices would include the skeleton wardens and the swamp wardens.

i will have to re-look at the ADs and Game Wardens...

If the Sus Scrofa had been designed with a straight Wharncliff style blade I would have bought several. Just don't like the curved blade that much I guess.

I agree. If it was a normal Wharncliffe, It would be a no-brainer. The reverse curve concerns me for usability. I have seen a post where someone had straitened the blade, but I have neither the skill or inclination.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter what we think. It's what you think that matters

Ultimately, I agree, but there is a lot of experience and knowledge that I value here in the Yard.

@rooikat: the late night viewing is what keeps almost getting me in trouble. Just am not 100% on the blade shape.

@ Paul the Brit and Private Klink: I agree there are NO inexpensive Busse blades, but some are more out of my price range than others....

@bodhi: it does seem to be a love it or hate it blade...

I look forward to reading more...

At Knob Creek, I asked about the Sus Scrofa -- one of the folks said that they have a friend who does leather work and loves it for cutting patterns. Basically, it's a Wharncliffe/Hawkbill hybrid that is probably ideal for certain specialized tasks. If you cut line or you're an emergency responder who may need to slice through harness belt material, it's probably a great tool. Perhaps if you need to cut hoses or shape gaskets it could be just what you're looking for, but I ended up canceling my order because I couldn't convince myself that I had a need for one.

I have a few ADs and BADs, but no Busse Combat Wardens -- I didn't like their handle. I like the AD style, but if I was currently looking into an EDC, I'd go for the Mud Puppy (I fully intend to buy a few). As far as Busse Combat EDCs, I'd recommend a BAD if you can find one, although you'll spend more than for 3 Mud Puppies. If you want INFI, but don't require that it be a Busse Combat, then I'd search for an SS4 -- they can sometimes be had for about $200. The Street Scrapper 4 is a favorite with just about everybody who's ever held one.

between the 2 you are looking at - hands down go with the SD Rainwalker makes an absolutely PERFECT leather sheath that ride high and tight for the scotch dispenser too! I carry mine everywhere. let me know when and what you get man.

I wasn't crazy about the SS or the SD, but I gave the SD a try because I knew I would need it. I prefer my Bad Warden (fancy Skelly Warden), I EDC it every day, and have ever since I got it. If I remember correctly it was my first Busse Combat Blade.

Well, I finally broke down and bought a Sus Scrofa (Satin [.170] Blue/Black G-10). I saw it on the BladeForums Exchange and kept going back to it; the price dropped enough that I just couldn't resist anymore. I hope it'll grow on me -- I think that's one of the best SS configurations.

[Linked Image from bussecollector.com]

The grip design is literally based on the shape of a scotch tape dispenser.
