Dean, welcome to the yard!

I'd say try to find a good used SS4 (if you can afford it!) or get one of the Bark River Bravo 1's in A2 (currently) or 12c27 stainless (coming out soon). If you see a 'Busse Combat' knife you like it should serve you well too..

I read a review by Cliff Stamp that said Fehrman knives were very prone to edge chipping in chopping use.

I am looking for a very sturdy 4" (8.5" OAL 3/16 thick) EDC fixed blade. Not necessarily stainless. I am not sure what SRKW or Busse offers in this range?
Also I have not seen anyone comment or share any experience w/ Fehrman compared to Bussekin. I am potentially interested in the Peace keeper Any info and suggestions appreciated
Thanks

Welcome to the Yard

if you don't need it right away, there is the SAR4 about to come out over at Busse Combat. At store prices, I think that would be the best way to go if you can wait that long.

I don't think anybody mentioned the bandicoots or INFIcoots either. They aren't easy to find but I love my INFIcoot. I'm not sure exactly how thick it is, but its somewhere between .18-.20, right there at 3/16

Personally I like having a slightly thicker blade. Just me. I don't believe that the thickness can hamper to much on the performance.

Many have recommended the YKCG, and I don't disagree, but you should also look into the YKLE. It is a little thicker than what you are looking for, but as I have said before, a little thickness to the blade couldn't hurt. It's also slightly more expensive due to the Satin finish.

Welcome to the Yard Dean! Tough to add to the list except perhaps a Busse Combat Leaner Meaner. Lots of good choices.

I prefer the YKCG but the YKLE is much better than you would think. All it needs is some edge work to be quite capable. I don't think most people really need the
extra thickness of the LE model though.

I also like the MuttLE.

Here is the YKLE with a small Fenix folder

YKCG and ColdSteel Prothrow with Rainwalker kydex.

Firstly I would like to say HELLO to all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm in the same sort of boat. Wanted a new knife around these spec's.
What I'm in the process of doing ATM is buy & try. If it doesn't gel it gets palmed off to my son, if he doesn't take to it, it's gone.

Just bought myself a Strider MFS & RAT RC-4. I will have a Ranger RD4 & of course a Yard Keeper CG real soon. Thought about a Fallkniven F1 as well, will see how my funds$$$ hold out. But I dare say I will buy it in time(grin).
Going to run the MFS & RC-4 head to head then throw the other two into the mix. It's a system that costs$$$ but life too short to worry about these small matters.

Dean:

I love and recommend my YKCG. But if you are strict on wanting a 4" blade it may not work for you. The YK has a 4 1/2" blade. If, for example, you can only leagally carry a 4" max blade length, look elsewhere.
