It is just so hot today, I thought I'd pass on yard work. I thought I'd put a patina on my stripped Howling Rat, but I didn't like the look.

So I buffed it back out. I do have an old Ranger that I can strip.

Pretty rough looking. Look at all those grind lines. Oh, well, it came out ok.

I like this heavy saber ground old war horse.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I looked about the same, but some how it didn't look as good with the Res C to me.

I can see that HD. Dark gray and black don't really go to well together.

Though urban gray + black = awesomeness = urban dog.

Dumb question time from downunder: are there any anti-rusting property gains by using this process upon a stripped blade?

Here is cody1's explanation over at KF, "A patina is a slight oxidation to the outer layer of the metal. It will happen over time or you can do [ENTER NAME]'s vinegar bath. It helps to make the high carbon steel a bit more stain resistant. You could almost say that it is the very earliest stage of rust, but not really. It's main function is for looks and to aid in stain reduction."

However, it still a very thin oxide coating and rust can still occur.
