Welcome aboard. Probably the best place to pick one up is at bladeforums.

Welcome to the yard JerseyBob. Sorry to hear you had such a hard time trying to register. From my knowledge the site has been acting up a bit. It was prolly just a hick-up you encountered.

I think its great that you want to start you collection off with a Scrap Yard knife. If its possible a little more info would be nice. Hold long of a blade do you need? , What type of jobs will you use it for? For example: Chopping , EDC , Camping , Hiking ,ect...

Price range is also a good start. Once you have posted some more info im sure some1 will chime in or myself.

If you havent read the rules/How to get a SY knive please do so its very informative. Here is the link:

Welcome to the Yard JerseyBob. The Scrap Yard buying process is tough to explain although there are quite a few threads on the process. If you are needing something ASAP, then the secondary market (bladeforums, knifeforums, etc) is the way to go. If you are looking for to learn the "buying direct" process in general, hang out a bit and do some reading. The Bussekin business model is unique in many ways, some good, some not so good depending on how you look at it.

Here is a recent thread http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthread...ge=0#Post191197 on the buying process. There are others.

Ron

Thanks for so much info so soon after my first post! Cheers!
Knives are of a great interest to me & the family.. We live on an Island & do much fishing & rough shooting so filet & hunting knives are part of the course & also of interest are old "War trophies" such as the German bayonet I inherited from my Grandfather who picked up a German dress sword & K98 bayonet on his travels...
Have seen (as i'm sure many have of you have also , a Scrap Yard on Ebay...)
Is it genuine ?? Are they that hard to come by? Have heard on other forums that most Scrap Yard knives sell out within hours of being released!! I'd love to own one!!

Cheers,
JerseyBob

Woo-hoo another 'furriner'! Welcome to the yard! There are two ways to get yard knives; by staying up very late on the Sunday night as Dan invariably releases the knives to the store then, or by buying on the used market with a healthy mark up! Yard knife releases are few and far between, but well worth the wait!!

The yard has made many stand out knives in the last year or so.. My favourites are the SS4- a 4" utility knife with an INFI carbon steel blade and the S6- a tank of a field knife with a shock steel (sr77- modified S7) blade; literally unbreakable!!

Anyway, welcome to the yard mate!

Welcome to the Yard, JerseyBob.

Dan should be making the Mud Puppy LE and the Bird Dog LE available through the store soon.

Other than that, you'll have to look on the exchanges, or eBay for past models, or hang around here and chat with us and see what's next.

Hopefully the S7, sometime a little later in the year.

If fishing and fileting are some of the task you do on a daily bases then the mud puppy or bird dog is right up your alley. If you need a good field knife then the S6 is a must. Good luck with your search. Feel free to ask more questions if needed.
