For CCW carry blades, I prefer Kydex since it handles sweat better. For open carry, I prefer leather because it looks better and has more style.

I like kydex.
It's a lot more versatile.
I use a tec-lok and some cord and have around 20 different CC option with open carry options too.

I do not have any Kydex sheaths, so I cannot say one way or the other. I do like the look of a leather sheath though.

I think leather looks nice but for practicality you can't beat Kydex. If you want your knives to rust real quick then go hiking in wet weather wearing a leather sheath and then leave it there when you get home....bingo, rust in an instant !!! Kydex on the other hand doesn't hold water so leaving a knife sheathed in Kydex during storage etc will give you no problems ! Like Sharp also said Kydex sheaths tend to give you more carry options, I like to rig my sheaths up for horizontal carry either in the small of my back or on my waist pack !!! ![[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p236/denaleeguy/saanichInlet064-1.jpg) Another example of how you can get creative with Kydex rigs... ![[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]](http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p236/denaleeguy/MtWork062.jpg)

You might also look at Nylon sheaths. Spec-Ops is a really good company and I have my YKLE in one of their survival sheaths. The sheaths have a thermoplastic insert that can custom formed to the knife of your choice. I guess these are kind of a cross with kydex and leather, minus the leather part and replace it with more plastic. Here is their pouch sheath with Cloaks RD7 ![[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]](http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee292/The_Aaij_1/DSC_0104-4.jpg)

The only non-leather sheath's I have are the one's come with my Cold Steel Recon Stout and my Rat Cutlery RC-3. I guess they are made of plastic? Would you know? Any info on their performance?

Leather (done by Rainwalker with Kydex liners) for Busse Combats, Kydex (or even better Dan's superb cheap nylon and plastic sheaths) for the Yard!
I could see LE Yard looking good in black leather though..

Thanks for the quick replies. I just finished a Concealex sheath for the DM and it turned out pretty good. It is a little on the tight side though and Im thinking of a re-do on it. I like leather and I do a lot of leather work but I kinda wanted to go the kydex route for its versitility as others have mentioned.
