Maybe this is old news for some, but I just realized tonight that my Urban Mutt's blade is quite magnetic. Out of some 170 knives I own this is the only one with a magnetic blade. Neither my S6LE or my CGDF blades are magnetic. Is this normal for the Mutts? Is it unique to SR77? Is it good, bad, or indiferent?
Does it mean I have an air pocket? Does it mean my knife has an air pocket?
Does all this mean I have too much spare time? (Not really!)
Any way, if anyone has any information or theories or off base opinions I would appreciate any comments anyone wants to contribute.

Could you send it to me for further inspection? Post some pictures of the urban mutt, that knife is rare.

I remember it was on scrap yard, but it could've been another busse kin knife. Someone posted a thread about their "magical" magnetic knife. I can't find it right now, but I don't recall anyone saying that something was wrong with it. Someone will eventually find that thread.

I wouldn't worry about it Ron!

There have been a number of threads about some INFI blades being magnetized. Doesn't indicate any issues. I have a couple myself that are that way.

somebody in the shop has to have some idea what this is from and why some and not others.

i highly doubt it means their is any defect in the blade such as an air bubble or anything else that would be a problem but i am very curious.i doubt it has any efect at all on the blades performance or longevity.

Where is Cliff when you need him. He could turn this into a twenty page thread.
Thanks for the input guys.

I believe it's just a side-effect of grinding/polishing the blade. As I recall, iron atoms can align in response to a static charge induced by friction. If you whack that blade against a hard surface a few times, I think it should go away (if it bothers you). Magnetic properties of steel are one of the reasons that specifically engineered mine probes aren't made of steel, titanium is often used instead.

Interesting my mill overrun SYKC (MOD7) is magnetic too? I was a little puzzled but I would guess just dont use it near your compass

Actually you do not want anything with iron in it near your compass. The classic story is of the hunter that followed his rifle around for a week. I do a lot of off trail hunting. I carry my compass on a nylon necklace. I take it off and hold it far off when in use.

I found out my DFLE was magnetic when I set it down on top of my computer monitor and it warped the color like a magnet. As Jim said, I believe it's from polishing the blades. My DFLE will pick up wire just fine.

Same!
My other two mil overruns(DFCG and Tan Hook) are not though and nor my YKCG.
