You can buy a decent machete for $6 to $20. So why would anybody try to sell one for a lot more? Because some knife fanatics would buy them. There are other high end companies that offer them for over $150. The swords that Busse makes look great, but most of us would use a golok or machete more. And $400 is a lot of money. SR77 steel would be a great steel for a golok. So how many of you dogs are as crazy as I am? How many would pay $100 or so for a SY golok or machete? Or even a big kukri?

I know Dan said "No" to a sword, but a BIG chopper like a golok, machete, or kukri would sell. Dan has two advantages over the competition: SR77 and Respirene C. I say build it and they will sell! I know I'd get one.

I like my Tramontina $10. You paid too much! I get mine for $6.00 + shipping. They are very fine light machetes, though.

I would consider a khukri from Scrap Yard depending on price, but I honestly don't have much interest in a khukri.
I would much rather have a good modern variation of a Golok or a Barong - either with about a 15" - 16" blade or so.
To pay $100 - $150 for a longer blade, it would have to differentiate itself from a machete in some worthy ways.
If I can buy a $10 - $25 VERY worthy machete that only needs some quality edge work done to it and maybe some light sanding to the handle, I don't want to pay $100 - $150 for a blade that is barely different .... and still needs edge work.
I like Bark River, but Mike recently took a bunch of Ontario 1095 machete blanks and made $150 machetes.
Granted, the Bark River machetes have very nice custom handles, excellent re-profiled edges and a custom leather sheath. But, ..... I still can't justify the price for the changes - ..... and those are three upgraded custom features I don't expect from Scrap Yard.
So, a Scrap Yard blade needs to be unique and well designed.

I’m on the waiting list for a Bark River Golok. Mike is scheduled to deliver them…um…well…last December. I have one of the original Bark River Goloks - That is a very nice blade! The Bark River Golok is not as thick and stout feeling as a DF or even the DFLE, but it still chops very well. It is light and fast in the hand, but still very good at batoning and excellent at limbing. It is about halfway between a DFLE and a short machete. With all of Vic's palmetto's and such, I think Vic would appreciate the Golok. DFLE - Better at chopping, good at limbing, decent on light vegetation Golok - Best at limbing, good at chopping, very good at light vegetation Machete - Best at light vegetation, good at limbing One knife that can do about 80% of a DFLE at chopping and about 80% of a machete in light work in one package and better than either at many things. It is hard to say one is better.... just different. But, the Golok comes with a GREAT factory edge and a sheath. .

It sounds interesting.
I have never handled a Golok but how much better at chopping would it be over say the DFCG?
