I have read from others that the newer Chopweiler out chops the lighter Camp Tramp. Since I am set up, I think I'll do a little mini-test. Not THE BIG ONE coming up that will be more extensive. Just a little chop-off to see if they are competitive. The knives are about the same size, but the Chopweiler is heavier by nearly 5 oz. The Tramp is a bit more blade heavy. It balances at the choil, while the Chopweiler balances right at the finger guard. Both have similar grinds of the .25" thick SR101 steel.

I selected the other end of the same piece of maple I used on the YH test. After 20 chops, they were darn close.

After 40 chops, the Tramp seems just a bit ahead of the 'weiler.

But at 48 chops, they both broke through.

No definitive winner here. I really thought the Chopweiler would run away with this test. The Camp Tramp is starting to impress me. Stay tuned.

Unlike with the YH, I will have to do more chopping and slashing to determine which is the better chopper. With the YH, it was obvious from the start. At least I know the tramp is going to be very competitive in the BIG Test between the Sarsquatch, Chopweiler, and Camp Tramp. The CT is a heck of a knife. I know that already.

The CT was ahead, but the CW broke through in the same total number of strokes. As I said, too close to call. I'm still of the opinion that the chopweiler is the better overall chopper, but my confidence is shaken by the outstanding performance of the much lighter Camp Tramp. It is raining now, so I'll find out in the BIG TEST.
