wait... does this mean the CT ill chop almost as good as a DFLE???

I am VERY confident - NOT.

The DFLE and the Swamp Rat Battle Rat are in the NEXT league for chopping compared to the CT.

But, the DFLE and BR are fairly dedicated choppers IMO. Whereas the CT is more versatile. Apples and Oranges due to length even if the blade shapes and handles are almost identical between DFLE and CT - They ARE identical between the BR and CT.

The Battle Rat that is VERY similar to the DFLE. But, the DFLE is about .75" longer than the Battle Rat, different choil shape and thumb ramp on the DFLE vs. no thumb ramp on the Battle Rat.
Also, the DFLE has a full height flat grind vs. Sabre grind on the Battle Rat.

Dog Father LE……. = 17.0 ounces; .250” thick; 10.0625” blade; 15.125” oal
Battle Rat……………. = 16.5 ounces; .240” thick; 9.375” blade; 14.4375” oal
Camp Tramp.......= 14.5 ounces; .240" thick; 7.325" blade; 12.5" oal

The Battle Rat pretty much has everything about it to be the same as the Camp tramp except blade length. The blade thickness, height, profile, grind and handle are all the same. But, the Battle Rat is 2" longer than the CT with more blade and over-all weight. So, there is NO reason to believe the CT could out-chop the CT.

The DFLE is about 0.75" longer than the Battle Rat and about 2.75" longer than the CT in blade length that gives more over-all weight, slightly more forward balance and more power.
I can't possible believe the CT would outchop the Battle Rat or DFLE.

See this post: The Contenders....

Unfortunately, the DF, DFLE and Battle Rat were not part of that test. But, I am confident the DF should be close to the FBM LE and the WFBM for "power" and chopping ability.
I believe the DFLE and Battle Rat might come very close. The DFLE and Battle Rat might loose a hair in power due to lighter weight, but thinner profile and speed should allow for deep bite.

Vic compared the DF and DFLE a while back. See: Yard Test: DF, DFLE, Ontario SP5

I am very confident the DFLE and Battle Rat should stay ahead of the Ratweiler's group.

It's a rational thought. The Chopweiler was only a little behind the DFLE. My mind is reeling from this little Camp Tramp today. The rain has stopped. I want to know, have you ever seen the rain coming down on a sunny day?

I took the CT and CW back out for another chop-off. It just cannot be. The Camp Tramp just can't be that good. Here we are on another piece of maple at 20 chops.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The CT finished at 35 chops.
[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]
The CW finished at 30 chops.

Got another bigger piece of maple. This is hard wood. Here they are at 20 chops. This time the Chopweiler is on the right.

I don't know what you dogs think, but I think these knives are pretty darn close.

Wow.

Seems there must be somthing wrong with the Chopweiler.

The Ratweiler (BF test) did much better, even though the guy couldn't aim right.

[Linked Image from i235.photobucket.com]

Seriously, It can't be that hard to aim a knife that's only .25 inch thick and 13 inches overall length.

BTW, I didn't say there was anything wrong with liking another knife company.

There is NOTHING wrong with my Chopweiler. It chops great. The Camp Tramp chops about as well, though.

Great test, thanks for all of the pics and thoughts.

As if finding a CT wasn't hard enough already . . .

Thank you, Johnson. And welcome to the yard (I missed you somehow). I will be testing these knives again soon against the new Busse Sarsquatch. That test will include slashing saplings and brush. I was afraid the Chopweiler would just run away with everything. It is a great mid-sized chopper. No fear. I see now that the old Camp Tramp can hold its own.
