Awesome news Jerry!
Glad to hear your head is screwed on tight about this. It IS a opportunity for you! Make the most of it! If you feel your calling in nursing ....JUMP ON IT!!!
That field is ALWAYS straining for good qualified people to fill slots. With the pride and dignity that you give to others you would be a natural fit for that field.
I still have the highest expectations for this change. We all offered a prayer this evening just like last night and we will keep pulling for the right job to come to you. This is all good Jerry and you thinking through your choices is a great step toward that new future. We are very excited for you.
Keep living life like a fried egg Jerry... keep that sunny side up!
Here comes the greatest change in your life so far, hold on and enjoy the ride.
Always in your corner,
Peace & Co.

I got the call about 10 minutes after I got to work yesterday that I was to report to the Warden's office. I figured that I was either getting a pee test, or laid off. However, since my immediate supervisor came along I figured a pee test was out of the question.
The Warden basically told me that the Department of Corrections was elimating my position. However, the best part was that nobody seems to know when that will be. So I'm loosing my job, but I don't know when exactly. So I don't know when to start looking for a new job.
The most frustrating part is that I'm really the only teacher there who gets off their butt and teaches. The special education teacher basically sits in her office and surfs the web and lets us do her work, and the other teacher there sits on her butt most of the time and lets her inmate aides do almost all of the teaching. I have more teaching experience than the other two, and I've produced tangible results. However, they have more time in the system than I do.
In 18 months that I've been there I've produced about 50 GED graduates, and I've got another 10 lined up for next month. The special education teacher, who was the ged teacher produced less than 50 GED graduates in the 4 years that she ran the program.
The worst part of it is that I really feel for my inmates. I have a lot of guys who, for the first time in their lives are excited about school and actually see it as something positive. I don't look forward to telling them this morning.
Peace Jerry Jerry I am sorry to hear this news. There is a saying ..."If you have a job you can get a job, if you don't, you cant" With this said get off your backside and find another job while you have this one and do it now!!! Don't stand around wondering "who took your cheese". If you haven't heard this line go to the book store and buy a book called "Who Moved My Cheese" it will help you get the focus you need to move past this situation. It is a quick read and I think it costs around 10 bucks We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Dan

Jerry, really sorry to hear about the layoff, especially since you appear to pour your soul into your job. The good news is that we learn a little more about ourselves in every job change and are always better prepared for the next job. I'm sure you'll find something stimulating and fulfilling soon.

Sorry to hear that Jerry. I hope you're able to find a better job soon where your hard work is better appreciated. Don't stand around wondering "who took your cheese". I see 'em at Goodwill every now and then.

like i'm sure others here have said,as hard as it is now i'm sure better things will come.
it sounds like your job is union,as most correctional jobs seem to be so it sucks that if you showed the right person your GED success rate compared to others it wouldnt even matter.
take dans advice about that book.my old man made me read it when i was a kid but i was too young to appreciate it.i forgot it existed and am sure its around here somewhere.i'll read it again.
good luck guy.prayers sent.

Jerry,
I know where you are coming from and I am VERY sorry!!! But, trust me on this, this is your chance! You now have a REAL chance to make a difference in your life and do what your heart desires.
I got canned last August 1st, and finally was hired (part time) by a hotel this past April 22nd. In the meantime I worked on a postion with the Forest Preserves for my true love, archaeology. The hard work paid off and I will be getting hired on as a paid archaeologist.
Now is YOUR chance to do what is right for you... If someone like me can do it, anybody can. You have it inside of you to do so. You just need to look.
Allow yourself to take a week to calm yourself and get through any shock. Then take stock of yourself and fight for what you want.
You will do great things and will pull through this. It will make you stronger, and closer to your family.
Don't forget your spirtual self, also very important to maintain.
I am very happy for this new opportunity and adventure for you as you now can do what you want!!!
Good luck my friend!
Dan
