Hey all!

I have a CS Kukri machete that is tough as nails and a great beater for the price.

However, I find that without wearing work gloves the pronounced checkering on the plastic handle is a might abrasive (make that VERY abrasive).

I took a small butane torch to kind of "melt" the raised checkering and it helped but it is still a blister machine after heavy chopping/brush-clearing.

I have more than a few feet of mil-spec paracord and wanted to permanently wrap the grip.

Any suggestions what type of glue/epoxy/etc. you would recommend?

Thanks!

I suggest that you don't permanently wrap it.

It's always nice just in case you feel like using the cord in some obscure situation.

Resin would be the best choice but you would never be able to get it off.

If you use shoe goo you will be able to tear it off if you need to.

i took a dremel power tool with a sanding bit or whatever you call it on their and grinded those damned checkers off.its a little smooth now but better.

i realized that if i ever had to use that [censored] thing and didnt have gloves i was in trouble.

do you have the regular 1/8in thick cheaper one or the 3/8in fatty thats like $150.00?

i got both, like both for beaters and did the same handle mod to both.if you dont have a dremel you could use anything that will sand, including your hand and some sheets of sandpaper.

if your mind is set on cord wraping it than i would suggest taking the seven inner strands out and using hollow 550 cord.550 with the guts might be to thick and not as pliable.

also try it out before doing anything permanent and if it is one of the cheap machetes than if you dont like it its easy to replace.

my favorite thing about those is their so cheap i consider them "throw aways" but at the same time their so strong i've never had to throw one away.

their is nothing they cant do,including heavy batoning and for the price.......

Mine is the cheapie ($18-20) with the horrible flimsy side-opening nylon sheath. Takes a great edge with a simple Lansky, too. Actually, this one out performs my Ontario GI machete.

As for paracord, I am pretty redundant with the stuff...laced into my boonie hat, coiled lanyards on every knife (fixed and folders), whistle, flashlight, signal mirror, firesteel, and every other tool and gadget that will accept that wonderful stuff! Add another 50 foot hank tucked inside my PSK and I feel that I am well enough supplied with cord so a permanent attachment to the handle shouldn't be an issue.

I guess experimentation will the order of the day. Thank you all for the comments/suggestions!

I have quite a few cord wrapped knives, where I consider the cord pretty much permanent although I don't use any glue.

My Bad Warden Necker has the same cord wrap that I put on it over a year ago and it's still just as tight. I'm thinking about redoing it eventually in a different color, so once I get it loose, it will be very easy to change out.

There was a thread a while back showing some links for knotting tips, gunna have to look for it though...

I personally wouldn't use glue of any kind unless I absolutely had too, paracord is just too handy.
