Alright,

I posted this in Outdoors because that's where I smoke mine most of the time.

I took to Cigars after 6 years of not smoking. I smoked cigs for 32 years.

About 2 1/2 packs a day. Driver...what else you gonna do right?

Well I quit cold turkey about 6 years back. For some unknown reason I picked up a cigar about last September.
And since I find I smoke 3 cigars a day.

I say smoke, but in all actuality I puff. As you cigar men know you do NOT inhale the smoke, you taste it.
And since starting on Swisher Sweets I have graduated to $10.00 cigars without looking back.

There is such a wide difference in tastes in Cigars that I find myself constantly searching for the next "Perfect" cigar.

I have finally tried my first Cohiba made in Cuba cigar,it was very good. I would say perhaps the third best I have ever smoked.

I have found my personal every day favorite Don Elias. A mild cigar that has a milky smoke always a perfect draw
and is mild all the way to the nub. A really fine EDC. "Every Day Cigar"

My personal favorite so far is a Cohiba Dominican Republic followed by Rocky Patel 1992 Connecticut,Punch,Padrone,Macanudo.

I find I don't like Maduro leaves as wrappers, but rather the mild Colorado or Connecticut wrappers. Mild to medium are my favorite smokes.

As I posted before my wife hit the button twice on Fathers Day I hit the jackpot! See pics for the prize!
A little over Three Hundred Cigars in those two Humidors.

So if you are a cigar man... tell me what YOU like, brands you smoke, why?

And what kind of paraphernalia you have.

Oh by the way I bought a Brunton Windproof butane lighter.
It has a ceramic coil and a 30,000 light actuator. It lights in 80 mile per hour winds!!

Slick lighter, cutter? I use a Xicar scissors snip.

Let's see that haul huh?

Nice humis!

These gas prices are killing me, and I'm running a little low right now. But I've got some Padron Serie 1926, No. 6, and 80th Anniversary, a few Fuente Hemingway Signatures, a few Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Churchills, a few Fuente Don Carlos Robustos, and a couple of Gurkha Beasts. The Padrons have been aging for a few years now. I only smoke those on very special occasions... like on or about Aug. 7 when my daughter is born. I'll be giving a few out to certain cigar-loving friends.

Nice to see a fellow cigar guy on here.

Wow, J. I understood every word you said! Different language these cigars eh?

I don't see how I'll be able to keep ANY of my sweet cigars for long. I have about 250 EDC's and only about 60 special smokes.
But it seems that I smoke about 2 good ones to every regular cigar I smoke.
I just can't keep my hands from grabbing Gurkha's Cohiba's and Patel's over a Thompson brand cigar.

When you know and appreciate the difference of a REAL cigar it's impossible to smoke a factory cigar ever again!

Sort of like buying factory knives all your life then discovering Scrap Yard and Customs...you just can't settle for second best any more.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this high dollar fight for tobacco leaves.

Peace.

I've never smoked a cigar, but I want to try. I have no idea where to even start. Any recommendations for smooth/mild cigar?

For whatever reason, I tend toward Dominican cigars nearly exclusively (of course nothing beats a Cuban). My go-to brands are Montecristo and R&J, but Fuente, Macanudo, Partagas, H. Upmann, etc. are all good.

I usually go with the Corona size (5.5X44 or so), which isn't overly large. Natural or EMS is my preference, but a maduro isn't bad in the evening with a nice single malt. On the scotch front, I like Oban, Talisker, & Laphroaig.

Cigars and Scotch. Now we're talking! Thanks for the topic, Pop!

PoP,

I need to post pics of my stuff. I am a big cigar and pipe smoker, but I don't do it everyday.

I have two humidors a Prometheus and one that has an African look. I have more pipe tobacco than I know what to do with and a ton of pipes, rangeing from expensive to cheap.

Everyone usually starts with Swishers and graduate up, I did just that back in 1998. Maduros are some of my favorites but I have many lighter wrappers as well.

Fuentes (especially the Opus X) are excellant, Padrons, Cohibas, my favorite Monti Cristo #2 - Cuban, C.A.O, Dunhill, Romeo Y Juliet and many private blends from local shops.

When hiking, a friend always brings his Backwoods cigars, cheap but good!

My pipe tobacco ranges all over the board, but not the cheap crap from Walgreens.

I have many cutters, from cheap to expensive. Some are even stag handled.

I have a Porsche lighter that I use when dressed up to Zippos when I am in the woods, a WWI repro bullet casing lighter to a table top torch lighter.

(sadly) black and milds are a huge thing with teens in my school (aside from all the drugs)... teens just love 'em.
sad but true.

Cigars and Cognac for me! Love Martell's Cordon Blue, and VSOP Champagne Cognac, and a nice normal priced drink is Remy Martin or Hennessey's line.
My favorite size is around a 52 x 6 1/2 I like Torpedos and Robustos,Double Coronas as for shapes. And I wouldn't mind trying a NUB for kicks!

I agree with the Dominican thing too! They are as close to a perfect tasting cigar as I have ever had so far. I was just over at my favorite website updating some info and it dawned on me that there are probably gobs of online web stores for buying good quality cigars.

If any Dogs have suggestions or experience with web based company's that provide FAST and accurate service PLEASE feel free to recommend those sites so we can all try.

I have spent a Kings ransom at Thompson Cigar.com after finding them faster and lower in price than Cigar.com.

But just a couple of days ago I discovered Neptune Cigar.com that seems like heaven! They let you select your OWN SAMPLER!! They offer their whole inventory as 1 piece purchases so you can mix and match any brands they carry!
And they also lower the 1 piece price to make it more appealing too!

They ONLY use USPS and no UPS which sounds good to me as UPS lost my overnight package the last time for 5 days.I received a refund of the cost from Thompson but I wanted the service from UPS that I didn't get.Box was open and crushed as well.

Neptune offers Express mail overnight for less that the others UPS rate so again I am impressed..albeit untried yet.
Please offer up any site you feel are great for Dogs to try!

E.M.F., I'm sorry to hear that ANY school age children are smoking. I started at 13 and didn't stop for 32 years so I do understand the tragedy of being hooked young.

So far I seem to really enjoy the decision to smoke quality handmade
Cigars. It actually has changed my relaxation mode during the day.

I find time at least twice a day usually at morning coffee and at sunset
where I sit on the porch and either watch the birds feasting at our feeders or watching the sunset for an hour with a good smoke.

I actually derive such relaxation and pleasure from it that I can often catch myself just sitting there and smiling as I look around. I really get that much joy from it.
That feels neat in this world where I go through it. Loads of stress and tough decisions and to be able to make time for myself to just sit, think and relax with a smile on my face means so much to me.

Peace.
