My wifes friend Karen has now returned to the UK but on the last full day of her visit we took her around yet another local lake.
Karen made fun of my choice to carry a knife as she had done all week and I continued to shrug them off as I had done all week.

Anyway we finally made our way back to the beach area and sat to eat our lunch. A woman approached us and asked if we had any scissors ?
Mrs Pit said no and the woman started to leave. Before she could go I told her that I did have a knife and asked what she needed cutting. The woman then produced a pair of childs pants and said that she had forgot her grandsons bathing trunks and wanted to cut the legs off his pants.
My Bandicoot effortlessly sliced the legs from the pants and the woman thanked me and left with a big smile on her face !!!
I just turned to Karen and gave her a smug look.......not exactly what I usually carry my knife for but maybe another example (or excuse) of why you should !!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Way to go PIT! I can kill someone with a rolled up newspaper if need be, but a knife is a useful tool much more than it is a weapon. That would have been the type of situation where my mouth would get me in trouble.

Hahah, good story. I was at the beach a month or 2 ago, and had my knife and little PSK kit. My friends thought I was crazy until someone next to us asked for a lighter, I didn't have one, but I did have a firesteel. It was a small propane grill and one strike was all it took to get it going. They had never seen a firesteel so they were really impressed, and my friends, well they still think I'm a nut. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> One of these days, I'll save their butt, and make them pay.

I have carried a knife of some sort since I was 11 years old. Boys and men were expected to carry one. A lady might need to cut something, and if you don't have a knife, as a man should, you will feel foolish. Here in the South, especially in the more rural areas, men are assumed to be armed, as well. All the recent hysteria against carrying knives is just more government and yuppie foolishness to me. Thank you for upholding that gentlemanly tradition, pitman!
