Hahah! The edge you put on it was great, it held nicely and didn't dull after all the chopping I did. I still get the chills when I think about the deep cut I got, so I can't even imagine the YK. How did you sharpen the Ranger again?

Can I hotlink here? Maybe not? My technique is to take a xx coarse diamond stone and grind off ther bevels almost flat to the stone. (HARD work, unless you have that 120 grit DMT) Then I convex and clean up the old fashioned way, with sandpaper on my strop, going from 80 grit to 600. Then I strop it to a mirror polish. Takes freehand about 20-40 mins depending on how thick the knife is., but I learned on Rangers, (which have the thickest edges I've ever seen) So I've learned a few tricks, like using circular motions on the stone for the belly and tips. P.S. I can whittle hair with this knife now!

That's right, I remember you posting that somewhere in knifeforums, I'll try and find it and give it a try. The reason I ask is because I just recently got the DMCG and the edge geometry is very similar to the Ranger, thick! It took me hours to thin it down a bit on the spyderco sharpmaker, but it still isn't perfect. I also just got a strop and some sandpaper, so I'll try your method and hopefully I can get a edge like the Ranger on my DMCG.

Just sandpapar will take forever, that why I grind it down with the stone first. Beware though, the edge will be UGLY at first till after the sandpaper step.

Ok here goes! In Okuden pants, the zero edge, notice no bevel! And the full on pic with the enlarged choil.

Ok, no pics again! :P I have to figure this out still I guess!

How are you trying to post pictures? I use photobucket to upload and it automatically resizes to whatever settings I pick. And to post pictures, just copy and paste the 'IMG Code' here.

I've always like the SS4... with a Bog Dog sized blade.

OK! What I have learned......SS4 is WAY bigger than I thought, overall is longer than the YKLE! And WOW are the resc handles light!

Sure is, it's lighter than my Game Warden.

Pics tommorrow, since the lights bad. And if I can figure out how to post them!

I wrote this for the Swamp, but the process is similar: How to post pics on this forum
