hey all

was talking with a couple of mates over some beers and we were trying to come up with five requirements that the ideal knife should have . .. just wondering what you guys might choose... here are my five

1) can pry open a car (via the roof or door) .. this also covers lots of entry scenarios inc house doors, getting ou of attics etc awithout sustaining edge damage r warpage

2) can chop off an arm/leg or limb a tree ..

3) can pierce through metal or body armour etc again without sustaining edge damage r warpage

4) blade sharp enough to skin an animal or for slicing type motions in MBC

5) comfortable enough for continuous usage over a long period of time

sneakily i would add that the blade must be easy to resharpen.. whaddya guys reckon . the dogfather seems to fit the bill although it may need a penetrator tip .. roll on the next batch

cheers

ug

From a tactical standpoint knives realy aren't the ideal weapon/tool of choice. If using them as a weapon their downside is that you have to be close to your target. And if using them for an entry or exit tool no matter the scenario they suffer from speed. It takes a while to cut through things. However, if it's what you have at the time then you use what you have.

The problem with using knives is that the really good ones are scenario specific. In other words if they excell in one area, they often suffer in another.

In my opinion the Scrapper 6 is probably one of the best all around wilderness knives out there. It's not a great chopper like the DF, however it's decent enough. It can take a pretty good edge and maintain it somewhat well. It's big and tough enough to baton with, however it's probably at the upper limit for skinning game. In addition it's not so big that it's cumbersom to carry around. In my experience if it's a pain in the butt to take with you, then you'll usually leave it behind.

peace
Jerry

..was talking with a couple of mates over some beers .. five requirements .. ideal knife
uh oh!
it's the "Beer-fueled ideal knife" talk!
it usually ends up being a lightsaber like Jerry said! LOL
..or something out of adamantium.

I would say.. Infi.
a "Camp Tramp" -sized knife made of Infi.
Actually the Busse Steel Heart anniversary knife is coming out! ..sometime this year. Imo THAT would be the "ideal knife" right there.
Tryin to save up for it Now.. cuz i know it's gonna be $ ouch time for the wallet !

Number 3 Metal OK but to peirce body armor? why bother if you can already remove arms legs etc... I think the Battle of visby is a good illustration of working around armor.

Other than the above your spot on the DF fits the bill.

I think skinning game with the DF would be quite a challenge. However, I admit to not having as much hunting experience as I'd like.

Hope he's not off to Helmand..

Tony said the anniversary SH was the way to go.. It fits the bill apart form part 5, otherwise the S7 will do it nicely when it arrives.

I would say a Camp Tramp . . . PERIOD!

While I've not actually handled a camp tramp just based on the pics and specs I've seen I would have to lean towards the DF. Thicker heavier just more robust.
