It was an exciting couple of days at the Unsub compound!
Late last week my first ever Busse a SAR5 arrived with a little MudPuppy nipping at it's heels.
Here is a little photo with them and a YKCG and Swarden for size reference.
In that photo we have every currently available type of Busse steel.
Here is a better photo of the identical SAR5 to mine only with a sheath.
The SAR5 is a heck of an entry tool style knife similar in many ways to the YKCG other than it is an inch longer and INFI/Micarta vs S7/RES-C. I especially like the
pommel on the SAR5 which is designed so you can hammer it into things or use it as a hammer it's self. The blade grind is also a nifty convex for max strength and great cutting. I wish it was a comp model with the stripped coating and zero edge. I also like the simple practical lines much better than some of the more complex patterns like the Fusion handles with the striations.
The SARsquatch is also a excellent simple knife but sadly I don't have one.
The Muppy is really cool and has been a constant companion since arrival especially since it fits my SS4 sheath. If you missed the SS4 and regret it you should definitly jump on one of these bad boys when they come out.
Today was an even better day:runaway::dancingbanana:
5 little Hairy rats and a big mean old hog with some battle scars showed up at the exact same time.
The HairyCarry's (or is it HairyCarries ?) got here much faster than I had thought as i just got the shipping notice. I am already a HUGELY fanatical small fixed blade EDC proponent and the HC's are also satin and black G10 which is my favourite colour combo. These are the thinnest blades I have ever seen from any Busse maker although the new BirdDog could be thinner.
I am thrilled about that because I want my knives to cut. There is a place for entry tool style knives like the YK's and SAR's but for a practical little EDC I want a razor.
It will also make a great companion blade for my DFLE. I have been looking for the exact right partner blade and none fit right even the Muppy ,Mule ,Inyoni
Strider ED(Close though) and SS4 (Closest before today). The HC is perfect though in size colour ,shape and thinness as well as having a blade capable of all the delicate work to small for the DFLE. It also does not have to thick of scales which will help it's balance if worn piggyback on the DFLE sheath.
I always liked the big/little blade combo more than what Bussiphiles call a mid sized knife like the S6. Normal people would call an S6 a big knife:D
I had an M6 for a while thanks to a lovely forum member who I still owe a favour for such a good deal. It did not "feel" right at all to my little hands so I traded it to someone who really loves it and has big hands which suit the handles on the M6 much better than my tiny little girly hands.
So the new to me but quite old Hog which is Busse speak for a Busse knife(in this case) or collector is the most classic of all the mid sized knives the Steel heart in this case the ERGO model. I am really stoked about this one which is why i saved it for last.
First it is an old school classic Busse. It has nifty asymmetrical edge that needs a bit of TLC and the handle scales are very different from the modern version. I much prefer the looks of this handle to the new fusion style with it's seahorse head pommel.
Here is a photo of my exact SH-E with a FBM. I did not take the photo but it does a good job of contrasting the differences between old and new models.
Here are some more nice SH-E's. Any excuse to post Busseporn.:D
This is a minty version of my SH-E but with different colour handles and what looks like an OST sheath. Great combo.
Here is an incredible herd of ERGO Battle Mistress's.
Before the ERGO it was the classic Straight handle. For a long time the ERGO was considered comfy but not nearly as desirable as an SH model.
However that is starting to change as now it is getting more recognition as a classic design. I certainly prefer it to the new Fusion design handles which is supposed to be a mix of the 2 styles. I would use the analogy of the shovelhead Harley for the Ergo. For a long time no one wanted the shovelheads but now they are becoming a very popular mill for real hard core chopper builders because they have the classic Harley look and feel.
Here is a classic straight handle BM with the flat screws and a 1 of 300 clip point. This is the holy grail of Busse collecting and a good example of the handle before the Ergo. Later SH's have the same pressed pins they have now. This sheath was also the inspiration for my DFLE sheath. My theory that the DFLE will rise in value is predicated on how much people love this classic uncluttered look.
This next knife is the equivalent of a full custom kick only shovelhead with polished and split cases and tons of one off hand fabbed parts like the bikes from Zero Engineering. If this SH-E does not blow your mind you are in the wrong forum.
A SteelHeart done in the style of a classic american bowie is just so "right".
I will take some more photos today. I have plans to mod my SH-E but I don't have as much skill as the man who did the engraved SH-E. I probably won't do much on it until winter but I wil take progress photos and keep you in the loop. It will be getting a strip and polish for sure and possibly some edge work.
Thanks for checking out and sharing my joy at my new toys.
