Thats a sweet little knife, I'd like to see a pic of it in your hand to get a better idea of the size. Ihave always wondered if you can mess up the temper from sharpening , at work we sharpen our knives on an aluminum oxide belt sharpener.

Thats a sweet little knife, I'd like to see a pic of it in your hand to get a better idea of the size. Ihave always wondered if you can mess up the temper from sharpening , at work we sharpen our knives on an aluminum oxide belt sharpener. Here is a pic of my first one. They are small, about the size of a tactical folder, but the handle fits my hand well. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/HCtest009.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/HCtest010.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/SRKW/HCtest002.jpg) Yes, you can overheat a blade on a belt grinder, but it is usually not a probem with good new belts. If I am reprofiling an edge on a small knife, sometimes I have to cool the blade a bit. Some steels tend to heat up more than others.

I guess the thicker the steel the longer it needs to be ground , hence a better chance of heating up. That would be a great EDC man.

Actually the thinner the steel the more danger of ruining the temper so you have to be VERY careful. A thin edge can get red hot almost instantly and totally ruin the temper. I usually thin my edges on the Lansky because it will never do that and so long as you keep the clamp in the same place you will have a perfectly straight edge. It does take a long time although the HC is not as bad. I did my YKLE though and it took a lot of hours.
I much prefer knives like the HC to folders. With a good sheath with a clip you can wear it the same as a folder in your front pocket and it is faster to bring into action.

Thanks, seven. I feel bad that I broke my first one. This has to be one of the nicest small knives to come out of the swamp. It is a jewel. It takes some getting used to sharpening the 154CM. It is hard and heats up fast on the belt. But it really takes a super edge. I usually EDC my Swamp Rat Rattrap, but I am quite sure I'll be carrying this one on occasion.
