I had sharpened up a few of my knives today and decided to give them a little test to compare them!

These were the contenders....

First up for the fuzzstick making was the Ka-Bar Impact D2.This knife did quite a decent job but was the most uncomfy to use....

Next up was my Dan Koster Nessie. This performed well when I first got it but after a quick touch up today I couldn't believe how well it did....these Nessies are crazy, no wonder they are so popular !!!

Next up was my trusty little Bandicoot. This was very comfy to use but I was quite dissapointed by it's performace today. I have used it to make far better fuzz sticks in the past but today with this wood it just made tight little curls....no real biggie, they would still burn eh !!!

Next on the block was my most used knife, my DumpsterMutt. This performed as I'd grown to expect it to. It's far from great at fuzz sticks but is comfy to use and always gets the job done, whatever that job is !!!

And the last of the bunch was Pit Jr's Ontario TAK.This one is hard to decribe as it is kinda all or nothing, it either bites in too deep or just skims the surface. It definitely is'nt the kind that makes tight curls. It was quite comfy to use though !

I then tried them all at drilling holes. Once again the Nessie really suprised me here. The Ka-Bar bit in deep really quickly but I was reluctant to use full force in case I broke the tip as it is quite thin. The DM just eats wood and I could easy have forced it right through the board with no worries. They were all quite close in this test but me and Pit Jr decided the winning order and wrote them on the board !

I was going to batton them all as well but it would have meant too many pics. In anycase as everyone knows you can batton any knife, you just have to hit some harder than others !!!! I have battoned them all in the past and can tell you that the DM is the best and the Ka-Bar the worst as the false edge destroys the batton !!!!!

In conclusion I would be quite happy trusting my survival upon any of these blades !!!!!

Nice work Pitman I plan to do a little comparison chopping myself soon. I'd kill for a DM it looks like a great allarounder. Your's looks like its been well used, I like the look of a knife thats seen some action.I was chopping through a 5in. thick log with my yard hook the other day and I swear I heard the hook laughing!

My DCDM didn't come as sharp as I would have wanted, so I put a convex edge on it. Before this knife, I put one on my Schrade Sharpfinger, a Case Hunter, Benchmade Mini Grip, and a Gerber pocket knife. All came out scary sharp. When I put the convex on the DM, I just can't seem to get it sharp enough. I mean, it will slice through paper easily, but won't pop hairs. Is that b/c it's too thick? I suppose it will do the job in the woods. Not like I'll use it to shave anyways.

Any thougths on my delima?

What did you use to put the convex edge on it?

I have kept the edge that my DM came with but have just touched it up ever so often, it will cut post it's and just barely shave hair but that's sharp enough for me !

Thanks for the review and comparison, pitman. Those are nice knives, especially the Koster. I noticed which one you seem to carry most often. The do-it-all sharpened mini-prybar! Saving the Ratmandu for a different comparison?

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I'm sure the RMD would've been right up there with the top 3, easy.
