Try washing them with the dishes, and then dry them. The tackiness should return.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I took some 0000 steel wool to my old Bandicoot a few months back and that brought back some tackiness. Just about 20 passes and it provides enough "scuff" to bring back some taciness. As HD said, cleaning off the oils and such from your hands may do the job as well.

Yeah it could be the sweat from your hands or, i know this is gross but small bits of oily skin can roll off ,especially from chopping . that coupled with the sweat can do that. i agree with Horn Dog.

I added a paracord loop to the end of the handle of my DFLE for safety so it won't fly out of my hand. Also, it allows for a grip more toward the end of the handle making it chop better.

That is all good advice. If you don't feel like putting it through the dishwashers, most normal hand soaps are designed to remove oils (that's why you get dry skin from washing your hands too much), so that would probably work. I generally advise using a lanyard or D-guard on large choppers for safety reasons. I don't think lanyards are neccessary on small knives unless:

1. you're doing a lot of ice-pick stabbing
2. you're working over a river or the sea-- that way you're less likely to lose your knife.

I usually carry a couple pre-made loops of Paracord in my PSK because you can turn them into lanyards via a cow-hitch knot, or you can turn them into ascending devices via a prussik knot

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

I use noose lanyards. Basically I take a boot lace from Walmart, and tie a noose through the lanyard hole. It works great. I can cinch it down fairly tight if I want to make sure I keep a tight grip, or I can loosen it some if I want to hold the knife more near the end for added chopping length.

Wash it is dish washing detergent like Victor said. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I do mine at least once every other week and they are super to use for another couple of weeks.
Of course it depends on your challenges.
But the whole soapy water thing does work.

Makes them like fly paper again! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Peace.
