I have been building this PSK for quite some time now, I got turned on to the idea of a pocket kit while on the Swamprat forum, later on saw an article in SWAT magazine about them, and I really like the idea. When I started building mine it was BIG. I took the AMK S.O.L. and took out a few things and added a few things, and it was just too big to keep in a pocket.
So I changed it again, but it was still too big to carry everyday. up to this point I had kept the heatsheet blanket in the kit-it takes up ALOT of room.
So I finally ditched it with the thinking that if I really need shelter I can build one.

And this is how my kit is set up right now-no snare wire or anything like that because I don't know how to make snares. No fishing kit because I think I could make a spear and get fish that way if I really needed to eat. And besides, this is more of a no BS emergency, IE I'm driving and go off the road in the middle of nowhere. If I'm hiking I take more gear, and food always food. Lara bars are good, SOG survival bars are good, cliff, jerkey, cheese etc.

So this is my new pocket kit, and yes I carry this ina pocket, everyday, all day. If I leave my place this is in a pocket on my person. Not is a bag, not in the car, on me. That way it is there when I need it.
I also carry a slew of other gear in my pockets, Sebenza, 35" silk bandana, flashlights, SAKs, lighters, firesteels, pens.
So here it is:

the contents:
[Linked Image from i15.photobucket.com]
-2 triple antibiotic ointment packs
-LMF mini steel with saw blade striker(this wirks SOOOOO much better than the thing they come with)
-duct tape from the S.O.L.
-2 immodium
-suunto clipper with the "clipper" part filed off to make it slimmer
-rescue howler from S.O.L.-after reading a review on equipped.org I'm considering replacing this with one from ACR, or TOPS
-tinder quick-I need to replenish these-if you coat the outside with just a little petro they last a LOT longer
-SAK- I have no idea what model this is, I can't find it anywhere, saw it in a local knife shop and picked it up-2 blades, scissors, file, orange peeler(ferro scraper) toothpick and tweezers
-trojan non lube condom-water
-mirror from S.O.L. smaller than the one in the Ritter PSP, easy to use
the case is from Plano-it's for fly fishing lures(?)
-oops, forgot the Photon freedom yellow beam, got the yellow because it will cut through fog or smoke better than any other color, and it lasts about 120 hours!!!

I'm considering putting this into a Witz see it safe, adding some aircore cord, and maybe a mini bic, but that might make it too big. We'll see, I had alot fun putting this together, at times it was frustrating, like when I had to snap off the lanyard loop on the whistle to make it fit, but it was a good time. I got my wife interested too, and actually built her a kit as well. Hers is actually a bit better than mine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />, I'll put if up too if you guys want, she keeps it in her purse though <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> at least she keeps it close.

heres another shot of that SAK next to my regular sized Bantum, notice how the one from kit is about 3/4 size? Bigger than a classic, smaller than the others???

Cool, I've been meaning to get a small pelican case and make one.

Cloak has one that's very similar but I'll let him tell the contents.

The worlds greatest tool for PSK's are Foodsaver machines where you have good thick plastic bags and the machine sucks the air out and seals them.
It is really durable and works for making first aid kits and tons of other things besides having food last much longer.

You can even make your own MRE's.

oooo.
sounds interesting unsub.

Grunt: once again, great kit.
all the basics covered their.
I wouldn't put the bic in if you are good at starting fires with a ferro rod.

idk, I would consider those little water purification tabs too.
since idk if you could boil any and I would think it would be hard to find safe drinkable water all the time.
plus they are compact.

Those little plastic Plano fly fishing boxes are still the most ideal pocket EDC container I have found. Been EDC,ng one for a few years now.

Thanks for sharing.

I have at least 5-7 of those Foodsavers. They're like $100 new, but I got mine at Goodwill for less then $5 each. I keep an eye out for them. I used one about a week ago. My Mom bought a big bag of coffee at Sam's club, and I resealed it in a bunch of smaller bags to keep it fresh for her.

If you didn't know, you can buy Walmart brand vacuum bags for like 1/3 the price of Foodsaver brand bags.

I think that model SAK is called the “executive” or something like that. I had an idea a while back for a replacement for those small signal mirrors in small kits like that. Check at Walmart, and most have those machines that make pet tags on the spot for you that take a credit card. I noticed one of the tags they offered looked like a military dog tag (size and shape) except it had a mirror finish. I wonder if you could get a blank one. You could even shine it up even more with some jeweler’s rouge and a Dremal. You could use as is, or drill a small hole in the center for aiming. It would take up a lot less room in a kit. You might even be able to sharpen one edge to use it as a knife, or a ferro rod scraper.

Hound, I didn't know you were over here too, the post of your kit is what gave me some inspiration to get mine going. Now you just have to get your pictures up again!
Andy-thanks for the tips about the foodsaver stuff, I have a foodsaver and a slew of bags, and the roll. And yep, it's the executive-wierd that I couldn't find it in any stores but a google search of that name came up with them. I really like it, the nailfile is an actual file, and the multi blades, scissors, I use the orange peeler as a scraper. Great little knife.
Your doggy dog tag idea sounds pretty good- I actually just ordered one of these: topsknives
so we'll see how that works out.
I really wish they made this same case in a waterproof model, I don't think it'd be that hard for them.
I'm also thinking about adding some of this: gaffer tape
but I don't know if it's waterproof like duct tape is, well I just checked this: wikipedia
and it says it can be used as waterproof packaging tape, so I think I'll give it a try.
I'm gonna repackage some water tabs today too

SARhound,
Where did you discuss your plano PSK?

You can waterproof the Plano box with some electricians tape around the seams. For double protection, you might be able to squirt some clear silicone gasket material around the seam to seal it before taping.

SARHound did his kit at the Swamp.

I mentioned it on the swamp as was said. I found the tobacco tin too agrivating in the pocket so I looked for a more streamlined design. I like that box as it is rounded and small and because of the latch you can cram more stuff in it.

I waterproofed mine with tommy tape as it leaves no residue. Still rides in my front pocket every day.

I have been awol for a while due to a career move. Doing industrial rescue technician work on oil rigs at the moment and net access is sketchy at times.

Great to check in from time to time. I will host those pics again when I am not exhausted which could be next year LOL.

Beers,

Hound
