I've now got it in a custom folded-cardboard-and-packing-tape sheath, made out of the box it came in. (How's that for survival resourcefulness?) When the Busses get back, hopefully I'll get a sheath or so that I (think I've) ordered via the company website.

Try camo duct tape. The new & improved $2 camo duct tape/cardboard RM sheath with step-by-step pics

Thanks, Andy. But I'm not sure I can afford the high-tech and expensive materials you used for your camo-duct-tape sheath!

(Actually just holding on for whenever the SY guys get back to the office and start communicating about the sheath I've ordered.)

Rainwalker, I see what you mean about opening bottles with the yard hook if you really work at it--did so last night. It took almost a minute of awkward fumbling, but where there's a will, there's a way. Those of you who've done the Dremel thing to make the hook a better bottle-operer, exactly where do you remove the metal--from the inside of the hook, or the outside? Or both?

Oh: for what it's worth, the coating on the hook got somewhat scraped off by the Budweiser cap, so the worries about modding the previously-virginal hook just diminished. (Oh, and lest the Brits and other drinkers of good beer on the forum be scandalised by the mention of Budweiser, I also have some Mackeson's in the fridge--but am saving most of it for my wife--having bought 3 six-packs on the excuse that stout is good for nursing mums. I'm happy to report that the Mackeson's [English] stout is working nicely, and that our 2-week-old son is now well-fed!)

AHA! On a different thread, someone posted a link to Horn Dog's pictures of his modification, using a Harbor Freight belt sander. For the benefit of mankind and the increase of learning and the advancement of technology, I supply a link to that thread here: http://www.scrapyardknives.com/ubbthread...part=1&vc=1

I look forward to hearing how it does after you've made some mods to the hook.

Made me wanna go grab a beer just reading about it!

Lean-to is down. The yard hook did a nice job--though it wasn't much of a challenge. I kept most of the wood to let my kids have plenty of material for building their own shelters, or other projects--but I did chop up some of the more-broken-and-unusable limbs. The knife did nicely. I'll say, again, that it was shaving sharp out of the box, and, though thick, chopped just fine. Also pried staple-gun staples out of hard wood confidently with the tip.

Now I've just got to get that sheath I tried to order; I trust the Scrapyard folks will be back in business soon. Right?

No picture? Don't you realize that pictures are required anytime you perform any acts of destruction with a Scrapyard knife?

And, because I didn't know how to post them, there's not much to take pictures OF. (And, by the time I took the YH to it, there wasn't much about it that would be too impressively-challenging to a knife. But I'll keep it in mind, if I ever have to (= find an excuse to) cut up a used car, make a hole in a brick wall, etc.

Anyone heard from SYKCo lately? I'm still trying to get my hands on a sheath for this thing.

Posting pics is easy once you get it all figured out and have a hosting account for your pics. Although I have to admit... My son was the one who taught me how to do it...

I wrote this for the Swamp, but the process is similar: How to post pics on this forum
