I have been doing some long overdue knife projects this week. I reprofiled a barong, a golok, and a new bolo. And I sharpened a few others for some upcoming chop-offs. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges001.jpg) This CS barong machete needed some work. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges009.jpg) You can see the higher grind I'm doing has not yet reached the final edge. I am using 80 grit to take off steel quickly without heating the blade too much. This is 1055 steel. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges011.jpg) I keep working it down until I get a bead or wire edge forming. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges014.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges016.jpg) Once I have a wire edge along the whole blade, I switch to a finer grit. This is the blade after a few passes with 80 micron (about 200 grit). ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edges017.jpg) Finally, I finish with 20, 15, and 9 micron belts for a finished sharp edge. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edge001.jpg)
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Another knife I've had a long time, a British golok made of Sheffield steel needed a complete large convex edge. This took a lot of time and many passes. I love working this steel. The whole edge is convex now with no obtuse secondary edge. Came out very nice. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edge004.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edge003.jpg) I touched up the DFLE, CS Ghurka Kukri, and BR Golok, too. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edge006.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/Knife/Edge007.jpg) Now I'm ready for some chopping!
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Hey Vic, hows that Windlass working for you.
I thinking of getting one so I can have a thinner slasher. (RIP, my RTAK <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> )

The Cobra is still in testing. So far it has done well. See a small review of it on W&SS forum over on BF.

Edge wise, how does the Tramontina hold up?

Tramontinas have softer steel than Ontarios. That can be a virtue. They never break. They are easy to resharpen, too.

Man, I tell you this, every time I've seen you post pictures of blades you've redone, I like them. I *need* to clean my garage, get a workbench and a belt sander, and learn to do that myself! Heck, if I'm going do that, I might as well add a bench grinder a vise, and a few other things. Every man needs a decent workshop.
