Hi Polarbare,

Your first time working on a convex edge and getting it hair cutt'n sharp is something to celebrate! Honing is a skill that takes time and practice. The more you do it the better you will be. I'm a real beginner at convex edges. Some of my experience with stone honing transfers, but the skill is different enough that it's a new learning experience. For your slimmer blade knives you may want to check out using honing stones. I think that convex edges are much better suited to thicker blades. ENJOY!

You might want to try a sharpie marker on the edge to see where you are removing metal and a magnifying glass to see the edge better? They really help me.

So many things nowadays are disposable because no one wants to do maintenance.
Knives are no different. People are even like that with cars ,preferring to buy a new one every few years rather than keep up with the maintenance schedule.
Although stuff like this is making a comeback.

Sad but true Unsub, the worlds' become a place of quick disposables. But there are still frugal people that are trying to make things last for as long as possible. I attribute my frugalness to my Scottish and Jewish heritage! LOL!

Yeah, there's a real lack of quality and craftsmanship with most items today. If you do find something of quality, you usually have to pay for it.
