i've been thinking arounf the plasti dip over the wrap. it's even more appealing since someone else also mentioned it.

anyway, the knife's done.

Full convex goodness.

i was removing the firing tarnish and realized into the sanding that it looked pretty cool, so i kept a little on there. it comes off way easier than whatever was coating the steel when i got t from home depot.

the chopping power of this thing is practically nonexistent. i blame the handle.

we have one tiny roll from those chops.

[Linked Image from eden.rutgers.edu]

my gut told me it's not the hardening, but too thin an edge.

[Linked Image from eden.rutgers.edu]

after a slight obtusing, i went back to it. i also tried wrapping the handle a rag so i could really put my arm into it this time. i had a tougher time controlling the blade this way, but it's not longer about the notch, were testing the edge.

success. no damage. however, in stabbing that piece of wood in the pic, i didn't realize the bottom wasn't flat and the wood rolled over. i ended up blunting the tip on the concrete. back to the sander to take care of that, but it's fine now.

Awesome! Magnum, kami to the stars. What will you call it? The Magnum Homo Depot Full Tang Khola! I am surprized that mild steel actually worked. Now you can make knock offs of Chinese knock offs! Great job. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

It looks pretty cool man.

(I know you love thin, but a chopper version has to be done)

Awesome! This makes me want to start making my own blades even more! I've been wanting to make my own fighters for a while now.

I saw a video a while back of a guy forging and hammering a railroad spike... his forge was a charcoal grill, I think lined with ceramic, and a shopvac blowing into it.
