With the possible exception of the bird and trout knife all of the Scrapyard knives are suitable for batoning. And after the performance of the MP I would not at all be surprised if the B&T battoned well also. I guess it depends on the size of what your batoning. The DFCG and DFLE are the alpha's of the group and are well suited for any batoning chore that I can think of.

most any of the Scrapyard knives would work, I would be hesitent to baton with the mple but other than that. I have seen videos of the swamp warden used for batoning, it all depends on what size wood you want to split. And by me saying I wouldn't use the mple is not a knock on the knife or steel, stainless steel however is inheritantly not as strong as carbon steel and is used more in hunting/fighting types of knives rather than hard use camping knives.

I usually like to use a mid to large sized blade, but any blade will do depending on what your Batoning. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I thinking of those logs you can buy, here at Smith's or Albertson's. You see them usually outside, about $4.99 for a plastic wrapped bag. Probably 16" x 6" x 6".

For me it depends on the size of the wood and how dry it is.
For example, last night I was able to FINALLY have a camp fire. My first since the winter. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Most pieces of wood I was using were from logs about 7 or 8" in diameter which had been split in half once.
If the piece of wood was dry, I used my CGASH as the extra width would split the wood in a heartbeat when batonning. If the piece was still a little green or wet I used the ASHLE. The thinner stock with a satin finish wouldn't bind up as much while cutting down through it.
For the slightly larger pieces I broke out the Sarsquatch since it has a little extra reach so I have a decent target to baton on.
Hope this makes sense! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Bear Grylls batons his knife across the grain to chop down small trees.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks HD, never really thought about the MPLE doing that, really no 3-4" blade.

I would think the mini mojoy and ratmandu would siut your needs just fine. I've batoned logs about 4" in diameter with my yardkeeper. (granted not very hard wood)

I usually use my DFLE or DM. I've also done it plenty with my HR.

I've already batoned with my DCDM. Any fixed blade will do - as Horndog said, you just have to watch how big of bite you take.
I've cut down a 3 1/2" dead tree with my TAK-1 and then started batoning it just to see what it would do.
I don't know I would baton with a folder unless it was a true ememrgency and realizing that the lock would probably end up damaged in the process. I've see people doing it - just depends on the model.
Your RMD would do just fine as well.
I like to baton with my BM-e! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
