I'm not planning on going anywhere either, Tom. The darn thing is, when Dan finally does get around to releasing knives, they're usually tough as nails and cheap as dirt. It's kind of hard to turn your back on that combination no matter how frustrating the wait and lack of communication can get.

Amen brother!

and good points tyger!

I've been looking at those, as I haven't yet gotten a knife from Jerry yet. Anyone got any info on those they'd like to share? Figure it's only fair I get at least one of those Busse knives sooner or later! LOL!

Sorry, I should have been more specific when I was asking for info.

I meant like how it felt in the hand, any vibration when you're doing heavy cutting/chopping, how the balance felt when you use it (was it weighted towards the pommel, the blade, or spread evenly throughout??). That's the kind of info I was looking for about the Ash.

TY75,

Interestingly I just got two deliveries yesterday evening....a Skinny Ash in desert sage with magnum green or green/tan handles new from the store and a MPDC which I have promised to a guy in Cz who will be pleased to know it has arrived.

I got the Skinny Ash based on HD's recommendation and boy was he doing me a favour when he suggested this. I doubt I would have gone for one otherwise.
The balance point is in a straight line above the lanyard eye on the choil/ricasso just infront of the first eye hole in the grip....the grips are perfect for me....not as intense as the magnum's on my FFBM in the height of the palm swells and the light feel of the knife combined with the strength and presence of that broad blade ......it is a winner! Would'nt have gone down this route myself....Skinny and light are not what you think Busse's are about....but this is one hell of a handler....it also ain't Skinny. Plenty of meat in the blade to do whatever you want.

Some photo's were done straight away and interestingly I tried to show how well balanced it was because it struck me that way before reading this ....this morning. It is Sat 9.00 am over here in the U.K. The camera battery then died on me because it was late and flash was needed and the pictures are a bit grainy. I will do some better ones this morning if it stops raining and the sun comes out. Battery is presently being charged.

I will be using this as my main webbing knife.....no question....I have done a leather sheath for the FFBM to experiment with carry options....again photo's later today.....but a knife the size of the FFBM is really something for a user specific environment....size and weight cut down your desire to do say a 25 mile tab with this on the belt...it is best either on the Bergan or maybe on a TAC vest if anchored well for straight Infantry use.....I got it for a chopper for hide construction/cutting sticks/Hawkin's trench or entry work. An option instead of a Kukri really.

The Skinny Ash I would never have off my belt...BFT's...CFT's...endurance marches ....you can do all of that with this on and no problems. Only got the knife last night and you can tell straight away when something is right! Many thanks HD....

I'm glad the Skinny ASH-1 worked out for you, SF. That knife is a true combat/utility knife. It weighs < 1 pound but is still substantial enough to use for light chopping chores. My other favorite combat knife is the Scrapper 6. When you hold either of those in your hand, they just feel right. Good balance. Put a good edge on it, and you can leave the heavy FFBM and CS Kukri behind. Modern warriors carry a lot of heavy gear nowadays, so lighter is better.

Hi HD,

On the sharpening front I just invested in a belt sander....dug out my old golok as well...but I will try a few smaller blades first! I would welcome some tips on the best belt grits to use. Could not find any of your 3M polishing grades....found 80 grit and 120 and 240. I figured if the 240 were a bit used and smoothed out...it could do as a final polish belt?

I will do some pics on the Skinny Ash on a different thread....rather than stay off topic on this one.

On the topic raised here....I sympathise with anyone feeling frustrated at the scarcity....I have felt it....but good things are always in high demand....so what can you do but wait? I am looking forward to a DFCG arriving...probably in 6 weeks!!

The 240 will do fine for a good sharp edge. It won't do a mirror polish, but it will do a nice edge.

Steelfan, thanks for the info.. Sounds like a good choice for my first knife from Jerry.

I may have to do some serious searching here to remember where the hell I hid my CC now. I think I hid it a little too well... from myself! Hi Tyger,

I think it would be a great first pick from the Busse range....personally I am now thinking of trying to get rid of some knives....I always have in mind the idea of looking for the best knife for a given job....then you get another and one more....soon you look at them all and panic can set in at how much you have spent on it all...so go easy on the CC

I have some knives with incredibly beautiful steels/blades and once you are over the "guilts" of spending that sort of money....the next hurdle is you feel like your defacing a work of art if you use them...

Then there is the difficulty of deciding which one you are going to use...

It IS an addiction... but hey....it is also great fun!
