Sensible mods, Brian. You may have just created the ultimate survival knife out of an Ontario Camp machete. Can you do a bottle opener on it? That is one awesome belt grinder. That Scandi grind is perfect. I'd have to build me shop to put that grinder in. Couldn't leave it on the back porch. Nice!
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Well, HD has the same thing going with that HF grinder. That thing HAS to be the most used one EVER. He should get an award for it

I'd have to build me shop to put that grinder in. I have mine on a simple 2' by 2' table that I specially built for it. I put rolling, locking casters on the table. It really doesn't take up much space, but it is HEAVY. You are not going to carry the thing around, that is for sure My motor weighs 50lbs, and the rest of the unit is around 115lbs

What kind is it and how much? BTW, I lost my platen again. Mine doesn't work that well anyway. All I can do now is convex grinds, like Mike Stewart. You suppose he lost his platen, too? ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/machetes/ONT12017.jpg)

losing that platen was the best thing to ever happen to the knife industry. lol I find the platen very helpful for shaping handles. Other than that, unless you like scandi-grinds, I agree. I prefer convex grinds, but there is a part of me that can not stop using scandi's. I don't feel like I need to make a choice and select "one" grind to live with forever. What kind is it and how much? BTW, I lost my platen again. It is a KMG. Don't get me started on cost Seriously, there are limitless attachments, and it depends how you get it set up. I also did my own 2hp 220V motor, which saved me lots of cash. I also find that the platens on the smaller grinders (like my Kalamazoo grinder) does not work very well. The tool rest is crappy, and the platen is wider than the belt. On the KMG, the platen is the exact width of the belt. All I can do now is convex grinds, like Mike Stewart. To be honest, the "sharpened" section of the machete could have easily been convex too. Just thinner than the rest of the blade. I debated for a while on which way I wanted to do it. Either would be great, I think. In the end, I chose scandi because I thought it would be harder to do If that makes any sense......

Vic, That knife is just too cool!!! I've passed on the BR Goloks because of the point, or lack of, but that Mod makes me really want one again!

you mean a 40$ harbor freight? Laugh all you want, but sometimes finding something like that is hard as hell in Canada. Not a lot of stores carry "specialized" items. So, for example if you're into loading your own ammo for your rifles/shotguns, and you don't live near the Bass Pro in Toronto, or some other large city with a similar store, you gotta search online for someone who will sell and ship to you over the Net. If you're into sharpening your knife collection, and aren't happy with the idea of buying an annoying-piece-of-crap-imitation-of-what-you-guys-have from Canadian Tire, you've gotta do some serious online searching to find a store somewhere else that'll have what you want and sell & ship to you in Canada. Sadly, if you're into a hobby that's specialized and not mainstream popular, it's hard to find the stuff you need. Prime example, you guys talk about Tuf-cloth all the time. I've been trying to find a Canadian supplier of this stuff, yet no luck so far. I've gone to Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Kent Building Supplies, and so on and so forth. As yet, none carry it. You see my dilemma now? BTW, BrianA, very nice set up you got. I like that Scandi edge.

Hey Horn Dog,
I definitely like the modified golok better than the original. I know there would be a change in chopping performance, but that would be just fine with me. That thing looks GREAT!
