Andy - that loop on the side is for a firesteel. I bought the same type of sheath from Dwayne at Blade for my Busse Custom. It IS a nice, sturdy and well-made sheath! Very nice sheath Andy! If any of you guys know where I can buy a firesteel blank that big, please let me know. I also have a sheath with a huge firesteel loop, and I have been trying for months to find a large firesteel blank that will fit in it. An Army model will fall right through the opening.

I've only seen one fire steel thats bigger than the military, did some searching and cant find it now. I'll post a link when I find it.
