So, I finally got a box of knives that I sent myself from overseas almost two months ago, finally show up yesterday. So, I figured I'd share some pics of my new blades, alongside some of my older ones.

First up, I don't know if you guys down across the border are familiar with Grohmann Knives, from out of Nova Scotia. They make nice hunting & skinning knives. In the pic with them, is a Cold Steel Tanto MBIX, if I recall the model correctly.

Next up, a collection of blades from Muela. They're a knife company in Spain that makes some very nice blades, all of which have become some of my favorite users. From the top you'll see the Grizzly, Colibri (made with Olive wood for the handle, BTW), IBEX, and two versions of the Rebeco, one with wood, the other with bone. The wooden handled Rebeco has been one of my favorite EDCs' for about 3 years. #'s 2,3, & 5 just came in yesterday.

Here's two larger Muelas, the Gredos and the Corzo. The Corzo has been my "big hunter", for about 6 years now, and still does good work for me. The Gredos is another one of the new blades from yesterdays' package.

Here's a couple more pics of one of my fave series.
[Linked Image from i321.photobucket.com] [Linked Image from i321.photobucket.com]
Here are some Bucks and Spydercos. The bucks and the small Spyderco Meerkat are also new to my collection. First thing I did after opening up the package is start making some lanyards. I think the lanyard and clip I put on the Buck folder looks decent. The other Spyderco has been another of my EDCs' for almost 6 years.

Here are some Cold Steel blades (#'s 1 & 3), the SRK and the Peacekeeper II. Blade #2 is the CRKT Hissatsu. It is definitely not a blade designed as an EDC, as one look can tell you. All 3 of these are also new for me. The fourth blade I can't even remember who made it, but its' been my "bush beater blade" for about 11 years now. It's nothing special, but it's proven itself time and again for me.

So, when I go out hunting for deer and other larger game, my setup of equipment used to include this gear.

Now, my hunting gear is looking more like this, a nice mix of Muelas and SYKs.

Last set of pics is a nice little pic of my SYKs and some older blades my dad just gave me recently. They are the knives my grandfather had when he was in the Canadian Forces during WWII; his bayonet and two pocket knives.

BTW, anyone who can assist me figure out what chemicals can safely help restore these blades would be greatly appreciated.

So, there's a small look at some of the knives in my collection. What do you think?

Awesome knives tyger75. In regards to the WWII folders I would look at Blade forums and knifeforums collectable threads. They would suggest leaving that historical patina, just clean them and oil them but dont try to restore them.
Very nice. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, I want to leave the patina, but I want something that'll loosen the pivot points and assist in taking the rust off. To open them up right now, I need to use a pair of pliers to do so. I've already tried soaking them in WD-40 as one guy suggested to me, but it hasn't helped at all.

Question, what do you guys suggest for an oil? I've got some no name stuff I picked up from the local hardware store, but I'm wondering if there's something better out there you might know of.

Mineral oil,you can get it at any grocery or drug store. Works great and foodsafe as well.

Nice collection!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I use some oil and maybe some Scotchbright on the tougher spots and then after I get the rust under control and wipe off the oil, I give my blades a good wiping down with Tuf-Cloth. I also sometimes use the silicon abrasive erasers, but you have to be really careful on folders that you don't get grit down in the pivit.

Wow what a great bunch of photos. It is really cool having some of your grandfathers military bayonets. Both my grandparents on my Moms side served in WW2 but don't have anything but a few photos. The pocket knives are definitly military issue as well. Some really fine emery cloth would work but be careful to only take off the orange rust not the patina.

Most No4 bayonets in WW2 were the cheap spike ones so you had to really need a blade before you ended up with a good bayonet.

Here is a very patinad Ross bayonet from WW1 and a great book on the subject(WW1 not patina).[Linked Image from i529.photobucket.com]

I really liked a couple of those Muelas. That is Boker's South American brand.
They have had companies and people in SA since before the first world war which is why all the war criminals went there but it is also why they make good knives.
They also have the Gaucho culture where a big sheath knife is the equivalent of the US Cowboys Peacemaker.

I particularly liked the Rebco(staghandled) and the colbri. No nonsense little users with nice natural handle material. I would love the IBEX with some different handle material like Stag. It would make a good companion blade for your DFLE which by the way is quite the upgrade from that ugly ring handled one. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Actually i was looking for a do it all bush knife ,fighter in about a 5 inch fixed blade and i had almost settled on a CarbonV SRK when i found Scrapyard.
I tried to buy a S6CG but all they had were S6LE's left and no way was I going to spend 130$ on the same knife that was 89$ without the finish. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

But this story has a happy ending because the knife I ended up with was the SS4.
It was supposed to be the last knife I ever bought because everyone needs just one good knife.<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks guys, glad to see you like them. I'm hoping to add the MPLE and BDLE to this collection when they become available again. Hopefully, my SYK will grow to rival my Muela collection in size. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Rainwalker and Unsub, thanks for the tips on cleaning up those WWII folders; any tips in loosening up the pivots? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Like I said above, I tried soaking them in some WD-40 to try and loosen them, but no luck.

As you said Unsub, I'm happy to have the DFLE as one of my knives now, replacing that old ring handled one. But I can't complain about that one too much; yeah, it's ugly, and can't hold an edge as good as other steel.. but it still did everything I wanted it to do for 11 years in heavy woods, and didn't break or bend. So that's gotta count for something.

It's funny that you say you almost bought the SRK, because I almost didn't buy it, then saw the price and said," What the heck? Why not...," they were only asking $50 for it at the American PX on camp over there, same as for the CRKT Hissatsu. They're asking alot more than that for them back here in Canada and the US, so I got one of each.

Rainwalker, I hope you're not too busy, because I'll have to get some pants for that DFLE finally, and after seeing some of your newer work with leather, I'm getting a good idea of what I want. I'll be PMing you soon. As you can guess from the above pics, I'm a real leather fan for my blades.
