not sure if S7 is the ideal steel for that type of knife, not that it wouldnt work though.

i think it would be really good in the 154CM they've been using or whatever else they have up their sleeve.

i'll take the bolo in S7.

i would love a buchcraft type knife though for sure.definitely!!!

as long as we dont give up on the sharpened pry bars that i love so much and that piss so many of the internet bush craft/survival experts off.

what would we name it??

jerry did show a pic of the bussmuk.still waiting on that.

A survivalist must above all else be a pragmatist. Results are more important than technique, and technique is more important than tools. I say that if you meet somebody who is more keen on criticizing your tools than looking at the results you can achieve with them, you haven't met a real survivalist.

Granted they do have a point in that you're a lot more likely to be carrying a 4 inch blade and not your prybar when bad things happen unexpectedly. But that's a topic about preparedness and availability, not actual capability.

Last night on Man vs Wild, Bear Grylls used his little knife to cut off a skunk's head. How's that for a nasty stinking bushcraft knife?

I actually made one of those, using that article.

I too would love a Nessie.

i don't see it happening. honestly, i wouldn't care too much. i'd rather have stag or wood handles on a nessy. no need for res c on something like that.

this doesn't mean i don't want that 1/8" thick bowie with the res c handle. just that i'd pay the extra for the brkt, koster, or fiddleback nessies.

Momaw...... Well Put! I think you seem to be on my page of thinking.
Get to the root of the situation and work backwords from there.

That said, options and variety are still a bit of the spice - eh...... and I still try to contend that differences of opinions, style of use and preferences are always fair in spite of reason .

The BirdDog looks pretty thin and sharp. The HCLE is also quite thin and with a bit of edge work should be a real razor. I am also finding I like knives that are scary sharp. I got a ZDP laminate Caly3 yesterday and I want it even sharper.
My Mule is very very sharp. My Busse SH-E with asymmetrical edge is also super sharp although not that thin. It has smart geometry though.

I have noticed the geometry on the Scrapyard blades steadily improving and CPM154 is a much better choice for that kind of knife than S7.

The ZDP/420J2 laminate on my Spydy made me wonder about a CPM154/S7 laminate?

I am not sure if I see a future Scrap-Muk or not. We'll see (????).

I do tend to think SR-101 with a RES-C "Mudder" handle would make an awesome Scrap/Rat-Muk... (?????) But, apparently, RES-C and mudders are now exclusive to the Yard.

SR-77 would still get the job done with an UBER-Tough approach for a Nessie, but SR-101 seems ideal to me for a Nessie.

An SR-101 Nessie with micarta would still work great for me though.

I came up with this a while back:

See: Re: How Long Before We Ask Dan For One Of These

I might be surprised to see a Scrap-Muk, but you never know. Jerry and Dan do come with surprises from time to time.

I do have two of Dan's awesome "LE" MPLE's that are similar to my SS-3.5 concept that I am VERY happy to have:

See: SS-3.5 Concept based on AD

The 154CM is still a little hard for me to get razor sharp, but it is stainless like a LOT of us requested and I feel confident it will do very well once sharp. I "DO" think the MPLE is a GREAT design.
I am probably quilty of making a little over-reaction remark about Vic's tip break myself and I probably owe an appology to Dan and the yard if I said anything to hurt sales. But, we all knew the compromises associated with stainless and Dan has already shown that in spite of using stainless, Scrap Yard, Swamp Rat and Jerry Busse HAVE provided some GREAT knife designs that offer stainless and still are VERY strong and tough for stainless.

Because of being very busy at work 6 days a week, evenings and with lots of bring home work, I haven't been able to do any work with my knives for a long time.

I did take one of my MPLE's to the belt sander and have been working on the strop, but have only tinkered with it a littel in use. I do love the feel in the hand of the Mudders and I think the MPLE has a GREAT blade shape and design.

These HCLE's in micarta are VERY nice as well:

I am looking forward to getting my G10 versions from Eric someday.
