I'd like a Scrap nessmuk very much. I hope I can have the Busse one as soon as it enters the market.

as long as we dont give up on the sharpened pry bars that i love so much and that piss so many of the internet bush craft/survival experts off.
A survivalist must above all else be a pragmatist. Results are more important than technique, and technique is more important than tools. I say that if you meet somebody who is more keen on criticizing your tools than looking at the results you can achieve with them, you haven't met a real survivalist. Granted they do have a point in that you're a lot more likely to be carrying a 4 inch blade and not your prybar when bad things happen unexpectedly. But that's a topic about preparedness and availability, not actual capability. Momaw...... Well Put! I think you seem to be on my page of thinking. Get to the root of the situation and work backwords from there. That said, options and variety are still a bit of the spice - eh...... and I still try to contend that differences of opinions, style of use and preferences are always fair in spite of reason . . if i may, it's bushcraft and survival. two. survivalists work with what they have. boyscouts are prepared. just being fair.

Nessmuk? Not my cup of tea. But to each his own; that's why there are choices in the world.

I seem to getting swayed by thinner stock knives just lately and keep thinking how cool it would be if Dan could make a nice thin stock Bushcraft or Nessmuk blade !!!
Does anyone else feel the same way ? The problem I see is look at the feeding frenzy that some people showed when Horndog broke the tip on his knife. On that thread I expressed concerns that I did not want to see SYK's get pingeoned holed into the "indestructible" knife company. I would love to see SYK's to offer different style of knives including thinner blades, HOWEVER I think to be fair, if they do that then we must be reasonable in our expectations of the blade. I don't know Dan personally, however from this forum I think he is a man of integrity and is proud of his company (rightly so I think)it must have hurt him when he saw some of the comments posted about that knife failure and I could understand if he said never again. These smaller companies live and die by their reputation and while I am sure Dan is man enough to place the proper amount of weight to that critisism, I can see why he may want to not risk a repeat

Coyote I was going to say pretty much the same thing only I would have taken a whole page and not been as succinct. I am also a real fan of thin sharp blades. That whole thing with the broken tip was awful and I know HD felt really bad even though there was no way he could have known it would turn into the huge redball it did. Any other knife company and it would be a nonissue. Even Strider, who by the way have a Nessie ,would not get anywhere near that much attention. ![[Linked Image from img2.putfile.com]](http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/10/29614183746.jpg) I have had some time to really get to know the new CPM154 steel ad I am really impressed. Remember the secret of the Bussekin knives is really in the heat treat not the steel. That CPM154 is very well done. You can tell when you try to reprofile it that this steel is HARD. I usually use the Lansky but I may break down and use the grinder like Vic. M y buddy had a 20 year old German knife that was so dull it was a butterknife but was such excellent steel i simply could not get a good edge without using the grinder. The Yards CPM154 is the same way. Now i wish i had got a BirdDog instead of a Muppy. My Spydy Mule is about the same profile as the muppy but half the thickness. Something like that in CPM154 would rule.

Mm. I suppose you've got a point there, choice versus necessity. I see the two terms used in parallel a lot though, which is why I considered them synonyms. I suppose the bushcrafters advocate an axe and 4" knife?

yeah. i would actually consider them antonyms. a boyscout who ends up a survivalist obviously wasn't a very good boyscout.

+1 on all that.... ( * Except for "CPM154" ??? - I assume you mean 154CM ) - But, yes, the "154CM" is HARD stuff. I used my grinder (longer than normal) and I need finer grit belts (and likely better belts) to finish. I haven't actually had time to use the knife much, but you can tell a few things about a given steel just by sharpening it. .

I'd like to see the Bush Craft or Nessie made from good old SR77 or SR101, something that offers a good mix of strength and toughness but is also easy to re-sharpen when out in the field !!!

I came up with this a while back: knifeguy, that is your best chop ever. you have changed my mind. i want one. Thanks.... I am pretty sure you have seen it back when I originally posted it though. I think Pit might like this variation better: Would be awesome with full convex grind. .
