same method with all my blades.

i leave it in a plush lined case in my drawer and never use it.

I don't anymore. That's Dogbert's problem now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I used a 1 x 32 belt sander to set the new edge and then just gave it an occasional light strop with a ceramic rod to keep it sharp.

From the "sharpened prybar working knife" school of thought, all I've done with mine so far is used a small DMT diamond sharpening card (1200 grit) and maintained the factory flat grind. I prefer to look down the edge and sharpen, following the angle by eye, because it's quick. Just be aware that the initial factory edge has a variable angle. It's more acute down near the handle, and becomes more obtuse toward the last third where you'll be hitting hard with it.

I am aware that it could be made sharper with oxide stropping or ceramic rods, but with more than a pound of weight behind it it is already capable of some serious destruction. Putting a surgical edge on a Dogfather is sort of like taking a water-loving mutt to the pet salon just before a hunting trip in a marsh.

he'll be buried with the DFLE. it's so much nicer than the CG.

I just touch mine up with a ceramic rod (actually a pair of them).

I just started laying some sandpaper on my leather strop to sharpen my DM and it works great. Might be difficult on the DF, but if you can manage, it'll work.
