Hey, guys!!! Long time no see! I've been pretty busy since Blade, so I haven't posted much of anything.
Well, long story short, I've got some surface rust on my DFLE. I moved into a new apartment in NO, and it has some humidity issues related to the A/C. I thought it might affect some of my naked blades, but they all seemed to be holding up just fine with just a little oil wipedown on them. Then one of my friends came over to meet me before we went out and saw my DFLE laying on the coffee table. She checked it out and thought it was cool, but a few days later it had distinct surface rust on it in what looked to me like a 4 fingerprint type pattern. She must have that super corrosive body oil production or something. Anyway, I worked it over real well with some steel wool and WD40, but I can still see the rust spots. Its smooth as can be. What chemical rust removers would you recommend?
If I can make it dark, I can make it light.
I am Crazy Dog.

I've had fantastic luck using the Hoppe's Rust and Lead removal cloths: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=210734They are made for cleaning guns, but are just as useful on knives. They usually go for less than $4. And for prevention in the future, you should think about picking up a Tuf-Cloth. I've never seen anything rust that was treated with one of those before storage.

Good to see you around Stabby. Welcome back! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
I use oil and scotch bright, steel wool, or my favorite one of those little abrasive erasers.
And then a good wiping down with Tuf-Cloth.
That Hoppe's stuff looks good too, never used it though... thanks for the info scraphound. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Easiest way to clean it is take it out for a beating! A bit of chopping will clean it right out. Recently I used a cotton ball and put mineral oil on mine.

Yeah, really, welcome back Stabby. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
As I remember the marine Tuf cloth is the extra tuff one.
